Braised Pig Trotters

$5.00 · 6 Reviews

Seng Kee Bak Kut Teh was effortlessly crowned as one of the crowd favourites of the day during our #BurppleAMKHawkers explore trail! The addictive herbal-y and lightly peppered base made it so easy to slurp down even though it was a terribly hot day. That said though, if you’re one for heavily peppered soup, this might not be for you.

Apart from the claypot BKT ($12) and its tender ribs which lent sweetness to the broth, you’ll be pampered with choices of sides, from braised pig trotters ($5), salted vegetables, beancurd and the freaking tasty steamed white rabbit fish (3 for $12). It’s SO good dipped in that unassuming saucer of Teo Chew bean sauce! Super shiok! You can also get their non-claypot BKT from $5.

Super happy to know that the pricing and standard still remains!!! .

The colour of the braised pig trotters(you can choose either the lean or fatty cuts) may appear to be lighter than most, but tasted really flavourful. Many BKT stalls out there use frozen pork ribs, Seng Kee pride itself on using fresh pork from Indonesia. I could not resist myself from ordering the steamed Peh Tor fish(white rabbit fish, a.k.a 白肚鱼, 3 for $10) as they were also bought fresh from the market each morning. All for myself, very very satisfying brunch indeed!

*How to tell if the stall uses frozen pork ribs for BKT - look out for the colour of the pork when you bite into it. If it appear to be pink in colour(though thoroughly cooked through), you can be sure that that is frozen pork. :)

It was an easy task for the whole family (grandparents, parents, uncles, and aunties) to decide where to eat every Sunday. This stall was always the top choice for breakfast, as we are all meat lovers.

There was one Sunday when my family decided to drive into Johor Bahru for a day trip. I was quite sad because I was looking forward to my weekly feast of braised pig's trotters. Just before we set off, my grandma received a call from the super cute boss (I think I "inherited" the special ability to make friends with hawkers from her). He was asking if we were heading down for Bak Kut Teh, so he could save portions of trotters for us. I was just beside my grandma during this call, and I gave her an appealing, innocent gaze (think Puss in Boots), hoping that she could at least "ta bao" the trotters for me before we left for Johor Bahru. In the end, she did! YAY! I got to eat the gelatinous, FATTY pig's trotters after the day trip! I was the happiest seven-year-old that day 😍

Besides bak kut teh, this stalls also sells old-school style steamed fish (get there before lunch to catch it), and other braised items that are off-menu. Just ask them when you get there! #hawkerpedia

The meat was well braised and soft. The gravy wasn't too oily and paired really well with their fragrant white rice. Everything for just $7.50 ☝🏼️ What attracts me back is not just the food but the service too. The auntie is really friendly and wouldn't hesitate striking a light-hearted conversation with you. Sadly, these are the small things that are slowly eroding in our fast paced society. #sgfoodsteps #sgfood #sgfoodie #sgfoodiary #sgeats #foodsg #sglocal #sglocalfood #jiaklocal #hawkerfood #instafood_sg #openricesg #burpple #setheats #8dayseat

Pig trotters seem to be the best choice now.
