It was a decent slice of sugee cake but I'm not sure if I would pay $5.30 for this small slice again when there are better renditions available. For one, it could be slightly less sweet and do without the sugary lemon drizzle which was a distraction from the buttery and nutty aroma of the cake. Another problem was with the texture - it was dry and crumbly around the sides even though the centre was faultlessly moist. Service was excellent - the staff are very welcoming and friendly. I would be happy to visit this cafe again to try their other offerings, but I would probably pass on the sugee cake.
After a long hectic week at work (Had probably lost at least 0.5 kg over the past 6 days), it’s time to take a break and reward myself.
First stop - Back @ Sunset Railway Cafe to try out their Sugee cake with lemon drizzle & attap-seed ice-cream. A classic favourite and it sure tastes as good as it looks!

Instead of the usual block form, the traditional Eurasian almond cake is baked in a gorgeous crown pan ensuring sufficient brown crust and buttery moist innards || @sunsetrailway_cafe's spiffy rendition possess a slight chew from the obscene amount of semolina and almond meal in the mix
Situated right next to #Baker&Cook at sunset way, the little nook of a cafe presents traditional dark roasted coffee alongside local dishes such as mee siam

Back again for their Sugee Cake; hadn't had much Sugee Cake in my life before so can't tell how a good one should be like. Homebaked by themselves, the Sugee Cake was light both in texture and flavour, speckled with shards of nuts within and drizzled with lemon sugar glazing atop for a bit of zing. The accompanying vanilla ice-cream is mediocre at best; probably came out of a tub easily gotten at supermarket but it is the Sugee Cake that is the main subject here. Starting to like the vibes here; a modest neighbourhood cafe that's homely and sincere in service, taking care of their patrons well and have small talk with those that come through the door. They also have free wifi here too; much appreciated for those moments when you need to do some urgent work with a laptop around.
