Sundubu Jjigae

$10.00 · 9 Reviews

Also known as Sundubu Jjigae, this has a warm bubbling stew of soft silken tofu beancurd, wispy egg, crunchy golden mushrooms, soft white onions, crisp leeks, and tender minced pork.
.
They're generous with the ingredients, but I wish they gave more soup / broth, which was delicious with spicy savoury eggy sweet flavour.
.
This hearty stew is accompanied by a bowl of sticky Ssalbap / Steamed White Rice, where the white rice holds bright grainy sweet flavour. There's also an option to replace the pork with seafood.

Switching to Korean food today due to a recent crazy obsession with my very first Korean idol ~ William Bruce Hammington.
Oh my goodness, the spicy stew pot with seafood, tofu, vegetables, runny egg and rice was so robust and tasty, I was continuously-slurping in the soup despite choking twice due to its level of spiciness (unfortunately, I have a low tolerance for spicy food). The seafood pancake with scallions also hits the spot. It was thin, crispy, non-greasy and loaded with plenty of fillings.
Did I mention that each of their complimentary side dishes consisting of kimchi, seasoned bean sprouts, macaroni salad, stir-fried anchovies, stir-fried fish cake and egg rolls was equally impressive and refillable too! We were mindlessly eating loads of it while waiting for our food to arrive. 😬

This arrived PIPING HOT and kept wonderfully warm in the claypot bowl, so take your time to enjoy this one! As much as I would have loved to have heed my own advice, the soup was too comforting and I wolfed it down with the accompanying rice. There was soft tofu, a few pieces of seafood, and finally an egg to complete this dish perfectly. Compared to the usual kimchi soup, this was lighter in taste, but I found it more soothing.

This restaurant can get packed during mealtimes, so I'd definitely recommend calling to reserve. Complimentary side dishes were good in variety and taste, and I especially loved the macaroni and the fishcakes. They're refillable too (I appreciated their offer despite them being incredibly busy), but please ask for refills wisely to prevent food wastage! 😊

Just across the road from Beauty World MRT Station is this homey Korean restaurant owned and run by Koreans — an indication that the food here is as authentic as it gets. If that isn't enough to convince you, here's another fact — the restaurant is usually packed with twice as many Korean patrons than Singaporeans so expect to wait around 20 minutes for a table during peak hours. When your body is in need of a soothing pot of spicy stew, be sure to order the Sundubu Jjigae ($10 for seafood) — a bubbling cauldron for one consisting of smooth tofu, vegetables and finished with a raw egg cracked in the middle, served with a side of rice. Their side dishes ('banchan' in Korean) like sausages, kimchi and omelette, are stellar. These are refillable till you're happily stuffed!

You know how in Korean movies they dunk their entire bowl of rice into the stew right after the stews are set in front of them? You can do it here at Three Meals a Day — no judgement whatsoever from the Korean patrons. Love how puffy the rice gets after it soaks up the spicy stew and they're so generous with their ingredients! Also don't be afraid to ask for more of your side dishes — its refillable!

We have always wanted to try this place but the queue was always quite long. The restaurant was at least 1/3 filled with koreans when we were there, which must mean that the food is rather authentic! Definitely worth the try. He had the marinated pork chop, and I had the soybean paste tofu stew with beef. The side dishes were yummy too. #koreanfood #kimbap #doenjangjjigae #sgeatout #sgeats #sgfoodie #instafood_sg #burpple #sgigfoodies
