The cake is suuuper soft and dense, and the kaya is surprisingly blue instead of green :O I don't find the kaya taste to be all that strong tbh, it tasted more like an ambiguous sweet filling, but I still liked it nonetheless! I'd probably call it a pandan roll instead of a kaya roll. The filling is pretty substantial in relation to the cake!
I tried the pandan roll from The Hainan Story a while back and the biggest difference would be the price. R&G's roll is REALLY LONG AND THICC ๐ ๐ฆ while THS's is smaller and shorter oop I guess size does matter because this roll is a lot more affordable for its price. As for the taste, both are similar in terms of the softness and denseness of the cake. THS's kaya is more prominent, but for the price, R&G is the way to go. I can see why they have such long queues because $10 for this long and heavy roll is ๐๐ a very justifiable booty call, now I know to check it out next time!

It's been several years since I first sunk my teeth into that light, pillowy @richandgoodcakeshop Kaya Roll Cake ๐๐ฐ, and I clearly remember that rush of joy as the comforting creaminess of Kaya ๐ and Coconut๐ด๐ฅฅ awakened my tastebuds.
Fast forward to 2020, where they have now expanded, and I finally got my hands on some of these old school roll cakes in a long while (mostly due to the OOS situation at their various outlets). ๐
Unfortunately, the Kaya roll wasn't outstandingly delicious as I remembered ๐, and definitely wasn't of the same standard from years ago when I once proudly proclaimed, "๐๐๐๐ & ๐๐ค๐ค๐ ๐๐๐ฎ๐ ๐๐ค๐ก๐ก๐จ ๐๐ง๐ ๐ฉ๐๐ ๐ฝ๐๐๐ ๐'๐ซ๐ ๐๐ซ๐๐ง ๐๐๐!!!๐" I mean, they were delicious. But they had somehow lost that signature light texture and comforting flavours that I had once fallen in love with...I suspect that the ratio of Kaya custard has decreased in recent years... Or was it my tastebuds that have changed? ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ
Surprisingly, I enjoyed the durian roll cake more this time, and even though the amount of durian pulp isn't exactly generous, it made a wonderful tea-time snack washed down with a cup of tea. ๐ต Would I eat these cakes again? ๐๐๐!!!๐ But I definitely wouldn't make my way down specially to queue for them... ๐
Fluffy and soft swiss roll in chocolate swirls, Iโm a bias cake-holic. Before you all claim, โaigoo, kaya is the nicest la!โ I love that too but I like how the chocolate is not even sweet at all which made it not cloying, even after my 3rd roll ๐

This shop serves really old school, fluffy and soft swiss rolls. Each roll is about 30cm in length.ย My all time favourite has got to be their kaya swiss rolls with very gao kaya fillings. Another favourite would be the mango swiss roll that comes with light cream and fresh mango cubes. Itโs also my first time trying their red velvet swiss roll with cream cheese frosting and it turnsย out not being too sweet which is light on the palette.
Skip the queue and pre-order online (facebook) before heading down to collect. This can also help to avoid disappointment when flavours run out very fast.

๐1 more day till phrase 2๐while preparing the cookie dough, nomming on my stash of takeaway snacks๐คค another place that I checked off my list is @richandgoodcakeshop โค๏ธ thanks to delivery, I donโt have to queue or hunt down remaining stocks at their store๐ tried their kaya๐ฟand mango flavor๐ฅญI personally like the mango better๐ the kaya as u seen is not as fluffy and light as reviewed, many due to mass production they couldnโt keep the standard as much๐ the mango turned out ok ๐ but hm, I wonโt particularly go all the way to eat their Swiss rolls, but itโs nice as giftsโบ๏ธโจ

My friend shared some with me the other day. This was my 2nd time trying their swiss rolls, but my experience was the same as the first. While the cake is soft and fluffy, I find their flavours too muted. Their kaya is neither coconutty nor creamy. It's like a green jam without much flavour. Somehow I just don't get the hype.
