Immanuel French Kitchen is located next to Alexandra Hawker Centre. What makes them stand out is that of course they serve French cuisine which is not a normal nor natural sight in a hawker centre. The only ones who have paved the way for affordable French food is Saveur but even then that's in a restaurant setting. Thus, I was curious to check this place out. The fact that IFK is situated in a cluster of western food stalls (Stew Kuche, Seasalt, Two wings) is that it gives the diner a variety of choice, thus enhancing the entire dining experience. They do their part by setting checkered tablecloths, which creates a rather homely and intimate setting. In terms of ambience, despite it being in a hawker, it was pleasant dining experience.
Zooming into the featured dish, the Foie gras with Japanese seasoning and Daikon salad. The size of the foie gras is about 1 quarter of my palm, which is a decent size - bigger than Saveur. I thought that the Japanese seasoning kind of shadowed the taste of the foie gras, but that's cause I like it strong. If not it was a nice balance to the flavour. The pairing of the daikon was really pleasant doubling up as a palette cleanser and also as a refreshing break to sooth the oiliness of the foie gras. My favourite place to have cheap foie gras is still La Petite which is more hearty and flavorful, but overall I would say that it was done well. I enjoyed it :)
Heartiness (portion): 3/5
Tastiness (product): 4/5
Worthiness (price): 4/5
The sauce and toppings that came with it gave it a Japanese twist. One of the best that I've tasted. In this case the foie gras can't be too soft or it'll melt into the sauce.
I love the interesting mix. The foie gras is cooked- just nice, not too raw or overcooked. I love the crunch and contrast of furikake (why didn't I think of this?!) against the creaminess of the foie gras. Perfect marriage of two of my favourite foods- goose liver and radish soup! Yum!
$16.90. Hmm? I think it's better to eat it dried and panfried rather than soaked in sauce. But nonetheless, worth a try.
Generous chunk of pan fried Foie Gras with Orange Gastrique. The caramelized apple brought balance to the dish. Sweet, Sour and Fatty, how could this not be good?
