Hangar Steak

It's been a while since I've felt the need to write immediately after a meal, but this was a very serendipitous find. Wildfire is perhaps more well known for their burger (siracha chicken or triple bacon, anyone?), but a little known secret is that their steaks are arguably just as good as their burgers. Lovingly chargrilled and delightfully tender, this was one thoroughly enjoyable meal; perfectly seared and rich, the secret lies in the choice of cut and attention to detail. The hanger steak is easily overcooked, but if done well, it offers the full bodied, rich beef flavor at a fraction of the cost of other more premium cuts. The sharp Languiole knife helps ensure that the juices end up in the mouth, and not the plate. Kudos to their indie/alternative playlist, and select of craft beers too. If this keeps up, this will be a regular haunt! #burpple

Wildfire has a totally chill bar set up and, most importantly, makes one helluva burger. The very uncomplicated menu offers an array of simple and unique burgers as well as grilled steaks, pork and lamb. The burgers were reasonably priced for how delicious and perfect they were, and the fries that tagged along were equally as delicious. For dessert Wildfire sells ice cream sandwiches from the Ice Cream and Cookie Co. P.S. If you’re still not sold on Wildfire, there is no service charge. So that’s cool.

Although a secondary cut, using wagyu beef and the way it's sliced against the grain allows the meat to still be very tender, and packed with all the beefy flavours of hanging tender cut.

My favorite in the Eatup yesterday. Juicy, tender and nicely chargrilled. Yums! Will go back for this anytime!
