Cohiludo 小昼堂 (Matsumoto 松本)

When in Nagano Prefecture, I knew I had to try an oyaki—a delightful stuffed dumpling that's a local specialty. Unfortunately, they were out of stock of the sweet flavours I had my heart set on. So, I randomly selected another flavour to give it a try.

I must admit, luck wasn't on my side that day. The Nasufuki Oyaki (¥430) was filled with eggplant sautéed with Butterbur Shoot-Miso. It wasn't quite what I was expecting. The flavour leaned towards the bitter side rather than being savoury. The piping hot dumpling required some patience before I could take a bite. I had to wait for it to cool down, but I appreciated the generous amount of filling tucked inside the crispy skin.

Thankfully, there was Apple Juice (¥550) available to salvage my taste buds. It provided a sweet and refreshing ending to my oyaki adventure.
