went for the basic pork loin don priced at 11.80 and i find it really value of money. the pieces were really tender and marinated in a sauce that is not overly salty !! there was a special don that was supposed to be spicy but it wasn’t really. that don was served with an egg on top.
highly recommend the enoki tempura !!
Obihiro Meibutsu Japanese Pork Loin Don (Reg)
served with miso soup and pickles
Pretty decent serving size and flavourful.
The premium tendon with hot soba - comes with a pickled cucumber side which is refreshing! Batter was very light and almost tasteless unless dipped in the sauce. Soba soup was light and hearty, love it. It was rather crowded on a weekday and there were quite abit of hiccups in the kitchen. But overall service by staff were good! POS system should allow the voiding of items for convenience.
Butahage, the Hokkaido restaurant famed for its award-winning butadon (pork bowl), opened its flagship outlet at Suntec City earlier this month.
The star dish here is their signature Obihiro Meibutsu Japanese Pork Loin Don. The grilled pork slices were already thick and juicy, but it was the savoury 80 year old dipping sauce that elevated the whole dish. I’m salivating thinking about it now! There is also another option that comes with Canadian pork loin, but I would recommend going with the Japanese pork.
On top of the classic butadon, a selection of other Japanese dishes made with Hokkaido ingredients are also available. There’s Tendon, the Singapore exclusive Salmon Mentai Avocado Don, plus sides and dessert that are worth considering.
We actually found ourselves enjoying the sides more! Our favourite was the 𝐁𝐮𝐭𝐚𝐡𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐁𝐮𝐧, a creative twist to Kong Bak Pau (扣肉包) that boasts two slices of pork belly, accompanied by fresh leafy greens and a kick of wasabi mayo, all kiap-ed between a soft, steamed leaf bun. The pork belly used here is tender with a moderate layer of fat, so it doesn't feel so sinful. Otherwise, go for their crispy 𝐓𝐨𝐫𝐢 𝐊𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 to pair with your mains.
