Reviews

From the Burpple community

Finally got around to trying Buck Tile St. Cafe after reading the reviews highlighting and praising their Blue Velvet Waffles. This hideout is nestled in the nucleus of landed properties of Faber Drive - so be prepared to do a fair bit of walking if you're intending on travelling here by train and bus.

Anyway, let's break this down - it's your usual tried-and-true formula of waffles and a scoop of ice-cream, sprinkled with cyan sugar crystals (I can't tell if it's granulated or demerara or something else), some confectioners sugar dusted across the diameter, and a side of cyan white cocoa sauce for you to drizzle over the waffles.

The waffles are soft to the touch and embody a distinctly chewy texture, which is hard to not notice when you're digging in it. When it arrived at my table, I was immediately greeted with a robust, bready aroma. I wasted no time in diving into it.

I have to admit though that I was not keen on the waffles that were sourdough chewy. I guess I prefer mine less chewy and more crispy. The blue white chocolate sauce too – it felt like an aesthetic addition to the dessert more than anything – the milky-cum-chocolatey flavour was subtle at best. Yet, I would not say it was awful. It just fell short of my expectations.

It's worth checking out if you have the afternoon to yourself, if not with a few friends. Besides, they do have plenty of fares for you to choose from. 😉 (6/10)

Tandoori chicken, sliced yellow cheese, blue cheese sauce. Accompanied by mini hash browns.

Therefore, it is a refreshing experience after having this Blue Velvet Waffle with Ice Cream (S$11.90). You get to choose your ice cream flavour from their menu, and they will serve this waffle and a scoop of ice cream on top of it, plus the blue velvet that can be mistaken as clothes detergent. This dish is interesting to capture on camera, but we all know the novelty will go once everyone starts to create sauces of various colours (think Rainbow Velvet).

Be warned, that this café is quite deep inside a private estate, so it is best to visit if you have a means of transport there.

It is located in the residential area , very quiet , very relaxed. Staff also very thoughtful , it is worth a visit. The Blue Velvet Cake ($6.90 per slice)

Saw their photogenic waffles online and decided to drop by yesterday as it was near my place. The blue velvet waffle (S$ 11.90) comes with a scoop of ice-cream and blue-ish white cocoa sauce. Waffle was crispy-edged but soft on the insides. Could definitely stay there for the whole afternoon as it is a cozy place.
