Handmade mee hoon kueh served in a bowl of rich, savoury soup, accompanied by marinated minced meat, choy sum, a poached egg, and two prawns, then sprinkled with fried shallots and ikan bilis. The noodle dough is prepared in advance, and upon order, a portion is plucked from the main dough and flattened using a noodle roller. The cook then tears the flattened dough into smaller bite-sized pieces before cooking it in the soup.
The noodles were delicious, with just the right amount of chewiness and a smooth, tastisfying texture. The minced meat was moderately marinated, adding flavour, though the porky taste was still somewhat strong. The prawns were standard, served with the shell on, and didn’t add much to the dish. I’d recommend opting out of the prawns as they don’t make a noticeable difference to the dish, and it’s also cheaper without them, priced at just $3.30/$3.80.
The soup was impactful, rich, heavy, and sinfully savoury. It was super gao and really brought out the best in the noodles, making the dish hearty and fantastic.
