More Reviews of good food at Asian Market Café (Fairmont Singapore)

Went on a sunday lunch timeslot 12pm onwards. It was quite crowded with many people waiting outside the restaurant. It has been a few years since I last had their buffet spread. Saw that they are doing a 50% promotion off the total bill by paying the selected debit cards (OCBC/POSB, etc).

Honestly, it was definitely not worth it paying for the full price with not much variety of the food that they offered. I will give it 2/5 even though I am paying for half the price because the food & spread was very mediocre. I remembered they used to have a prata station where the chef cooked it on the spot per order but I guess not anymore.

The only food that you may get your price (which are protein) worth it were the oysters, raw salmon, clams, prawns, crabs, mutton, chicken and fish. The chicken satay was alright but the beef’s version was bad.

In terms of carbs, got your usual laksa, rojak, fried noodles, fried rice, roasted potatoes, cheesy minced meat, kang kong, broccoli, and some cold appetisers like jellyfish. The sushi was pretty meh as it is just your standard assorted sushi which you can get it at your local sushi store.

They got variations of your kuehs, icecream and pastries which I am not really a fan of (cause it’s too sweet). If you have a sweet tooth, this section is for you. Had their chocolate icecream which you need to scoop it on your own. It was rich and tasted good. The other flavours were strawberry and vanilla.

Wanted to get their fruits but it ran out, so managed to get only their pineapples which were disappointing.

A plus point will be that the servers are actively clearing your plates whenever you are off to get your food.

Honestly, I don’t think I will be back for the buffet as there are definitely better options elsewhere to get your money worth.

The restaurant needs to work on diligently topping up of food as it is a buffet spread and most of the food are close to empty whenever I (and the rest) wants to take a serving plate of it.

Went there for company lunch. The food quality so so and prawns were not fresh. The durian purée too watery. But their salmon sashimi is fresh.

After the smoky glory that was their Robatayaki, the Orange Sensation was a dismal redirection, with the meringue possessing a curiously off-putting, tastebud-paralysing bitterness with a medicinal quality stronger than that of a Toa Payoh Chinese dispensary. The zest tried valiantly but was largely unsuccessful in damage control. 2.7/5

Cafe Swiss lunch buffet offers a good selection of comfort food such as ravioli, cheese fondant, beef stew, mushroom in cream, sausages.. Salmon lovers will enjoy the thick slices of sashimi offered here. OCBC 1 for 1 lunch promo is only $25++

There's always room for desserts! What better way to end an asian meal with your own diy ice kachang!

But some might ask. Why would I want to eat a plate of economical rice at a hotel buffet? Why don't I just go to any other hawker and order all these dishes?? .

My answer: Their cooked food was above average compared to most of the hotel buffets I had. Because most of the dishes were stewed, warming over a low heat actually made them tasted even better. Just look at the eggplant, this took skills and experience for it to retain its texture over time. From Muslim, Indian and Chinese food, you could had all these in one plate!

For those who are sick of black pepper crab or salted egg crab, you can try their Douchi (fermented black bean) crab. The savory from the black bean bought out the sweetness of the crab and didn't overpower the natural flavor.

Their buffet was mostly made up of Chinese and Indian food (This was the only few buffet which their food was actually tasted good). Steamed perfectly Hainanese chicken, super fresh seafood and spicy indian food! .

However, if you are a Japanese food and dessert lover, this might not be the buffet for you.

Really glad 2014 presented me with many opportunities for overseas work.

By the way, the kebabs here are the bomb. So juicy delicious!

12.90 for a French pizza. The bread tastes like curry puff pastry. Not bad!

7.90 for this marvelous dish. Hot and cold and sweet
