Touted to be one of the best mango sticky rice in the country, Mae Varee's version came at a premium too. At 130 THB (approx $5 SGD), it came with one full mango and a pretty generous potion of sticky rice. We tried the version with 3 rice variants and I daresay the puloh hitam sticky rice was the most fragrant and my ultimate favourite.
It's very first outlet in Thailand opened in Siam Paragon a couple of days ago and people have started buying truckloads of it. A pity that these mini pieces of cheese tart heaven can only last for 6 hours outside without refrigeration, if not some of it will definitely accompany me back home. Both the Pablo Mini Original (75 THB) and Pablo Mini Uji Matcha (90 THB) are so good that you can't stop at one, my preference goes to the latter for the cheese and matcha combination.

In fact, the food was so good that I went there twice in 3 days.

Sometimes the simplest of things is the most difficult to master. Take for example, the Yam Kai Dao (200 THB) which is a Thai fried egg salad. It might seem like a simple home-cooked dish, but the flavours were simply astonishing, something that I have not tried before. The egg whites were crispy while the yolks remained runny in the middle. One single poke on the yolk and it will instantly flow out, a true benchmark of an excellent fried egg. The accompanying sauce was one of a salty tangy concoction of soy sauce and lime juice.

It was truly an impressive and fulfilling meal which I will definitely make it a point to revisit Soei whenever I am in Bangkok.

Surprisingly light and milky with a mild savoury saltiness from the miso. I liked that it wasn't too sweet. Topped with crunchy Tao Kae Noi seaweed. Not one of their top flavours to me, but rather interesting. $4.50 per scoop.
The bread pudding is interesting as they use croissant, which brought in a nice airy texture. However, I was quite disappointed as it didn't have the buttery fragrance nor the yeasty bread aroma. The custard was rather plain as well. I could be biased because I prefer a soggy bread pudding! The Chantilly cream was light and good, but wasn't enough to salvage the dessert. The hazelnut praline was probably a little burnt as there was a lingering bitterness.
Very much enjoyed the mac and cheese. Chunks of tender and juicy chicken with an assortment of portobello and shimeji mushrooms. The seasoning is similar to what you will find in gourmet sausages and it complements the creamy sauce well. Topped with chicken skin which resembles chicken floss in taste. $14 well spent!
Quite a light version of cottage pie. The potato and cheese seems to be blended into a foam like consistency and you don't get the heaviness of it here. Ground meat was good, with a light seasoning. Reasonably priced at $14 nett. On weekdays, the lunch set is $16 which comes with a coffee of your choice.
The stock was superior, savoury and very flavourful. The lobster was fresh with sweet meat. Porridge was comforting until I felt the hole in my wallet. For the portion, I don't think it's worth it.
The tiramisu was basically an icy milk powdered softserve, topped with bland cocoa powder and chocolate sauce. The Oreo froyo was slightly better, tastes a bit cheesy but the crushed Oreos bits made it more palatable. Honestly, I wouldn't come here again. You get to keep the cup as a token if that counts.
Kicking myself for not getting the fish with chilli crab sauce. The batter was thin but a bit oily. The dory fish was flaky and fresh. Can get a bit dry even with the mayo dip. The Hawaiian chicken was pretty good. Would be better if the chicken chop was thicker! They only accept cash here so be prepared!
Mind. Freaking. Blown. 😱 Throw out all your sticky date puddings, this crazy creation from Chef Shen takes the cake and brings it to a whole other level! 😛
You know how some modern takes on desserts just lose their way? Well this one brings you on a joy ride then delivers you right back to your doorstep as the taste and textures of the pulot hitam really shines through. 🙌Coupled with the coconut ice cream, I could probably finish a couple of these, no problem 😂Thanks Revolution Coffee for feeding us!
Soup was light but quite forgettable. Dumpling was well made and full of ingredients - tenderised minced pork meat and Sheperd's purse. Quite enjoyed it! $6.
