What are the odds. I can't quite believe that it took me so long (probably a couple of years?) before I finally landed myself at @statelandcafe because it simply blew my mind when every single item on the menu sounded appealing. #notkidding. We were spent the longest time in a dilemma before...unanimously deciding that we were all going to order the Hainanese Chicken Rice Risotto ($20) 😂 I haven't had chicken rice in, what, years again probably? And it was a wonderful feeling digging into this dish. A deliciously accurate makeover of the much-loved hawker dish: tender, juicy white chicken ✔️ fragrant rice ✔️ kickass chili 💥✔️. This was SHIOK. It was incredibly filling, yet so addictive that it was hard to resist. Value-for-money too, as prices are met and you get a free drink too (even for dinner)! Wickedly decadent with an amazing texture, I relished every bite of the liver paired with the tender beef. Crunchy asparagus stalks on the side helped to cut through the meat, and we enjoyed the creamy mashed potatoes too. Paired this with a Cavalier de la Mediterranée Merlot for maximum enjoyment 🍷 #burpple #steak
Love it when the lobster is served ready-to-eat this way, especially when they are juicy, plump chunks like these! Served on a bed of risotto that had a balanced creaminess to it while retaining some bite, and topped with dill for a refreshing breath. Wash it down with a glass of Cavalier de Mediterranee Sauvignon Blanc 👌🏼 c'est manifique! #burpple
The nondescript entrance that seemed to almost magically appear only when we doubled back along the row of shops a second time lured us into its dark interior. Decked out with lush foliage within and a tastefully eclectic collection of furniture, we were off to a good start. Most of us ended up choosing the Oriental Bolognese ($20) which seemed to be one of the top items on the menu. It was a tasty combination of angel hair pasta and pork ragout, seasoned with Sakura ebi and topped with a wobbly onsen tamago to mix in. Unfortunately, the wilted kale which had an awfully plastic-y artificial taste spoilt the otherwise harmonious blend of flavours and left an unpleasant taste in our mouths. #burpple
Luckily for us, we made the right decision to order the Spicy BBQ Pork combo ($25.90 during lunch) which came with a smaller portion of the soup as well. We selected the assorted tofu stew which came with beef, clams, prawns and squid and chose the medium spiciness level. I don't think it was anything to do with the spicy level, but rather, the soup just tasted awfully watered down and lacked the oomph that we would have expected in a place that specializes in this dish. The BBQ spicy pork stole the show with a contrasting depth of flavour though! #burpple #tofustew #korean
Our server warned us that the famous beef brisket ($11.90) was unfortunately a bit hard that day as it just came out of the fridge, so I opted for the Short Ribs noodle soup ($12.90) instead. Slices of shabu shabu beef that were just slightly pink, with your choice of noodles (and they had plenty!). The highlight definitely had to be the soup which had the right balance of savory and herbs, though I felt it was too oily and should've opted out of pork lard. #burpple

It seemed like it was inspired by the Taiwanese zhajiangmian with its generous topping of spicy minced meat atop springy QQ ramen noodles. The pile of spring onions and seaweed provided a textural crunch, with the perfect onsen egg to bring the dish together. How to eat it? Simply toss everything together to coat each strand of ramen in the sauce and dig in!
