This time, I had Master Choy’s Duck noodle with added Roasted Pork during my visit.

The egg noddle, tossed in some savoury sauce was, thin and springy. The roasted duck was nicely roasted, meat was tender and its skin was almost crispy. The Roasted Pork had the right amount of meat and fat. It was tender, not overly salty and the skin was incredibly crispy - I could hear the crunch when I bit into it - definitely the star of today’s meal...!!

Haven’t been to Aburi-En before - so decided to drop in for a quick lunch there. Ordered the Butadon (Pork over Rice)...the cheapest on the menu. This donburi came with a generous portion of grilled chestnut-fed pork loin simmered in Miyazaki Yakiniku Sauce (Japanese BBQ Sauce) - giving it this sweet-savoury light glaze to the meat. The lightly grilled pork slices were tender and well marinated. The meal came with a bowl of miso soup and Japanese pickles. And since the salad only cost an additional $1.50, decided to order some leafy greens for a balanced meal. Enjoyed it. Wouldn’t mind coming again to try their other fancier donburi on the menu.

Went on a date with my daughter the other day since we’ve not done this for a while ... chatting about stuff and her plans for her future - did that over some waffles served with fresh whipped cream and blueberry sauce, mocha frappe and tea.

The after-dinner dessert was alright - nothing unique about it - but the company was great and I truly enjoyed the conversations and the time spent with my daughter...!!

Although I still think my mom makes the best Buah Keluak - this one came pretty close to my mom’s version of the “black gold” - rich nutty flavour - satisfying thick sauce - just the way I like it. Told my daughter, whom I had lunch with, that I could lick clean the bowl - but I didn’t - I know my manners, you know...?😊

Anyway, this was the set lunch at Tingkat Peramakan (Thomson Plaza). One main, 2 sides, rice, dessert and drink - 6 different sets to choose from with price ranging from $10-$15. Pretty worth it if you ask me.

I waited for 50 minutes for this burger before I was served with it. This is called Da Burger Bomb - Peppered Teriyaki Chicken, cheese, sliced tomato, lettuce, an overdone sunny side up egg cos the edges of the egg were crispy - and I thought I bit into eggshells but was actually those burnt crispy bits on the side - anyway, all these sandwiched between a sesame seed bun.

Unfortunately, Da Burger Bomb did not cause a big explosion in my mouth - the thing that did explode was my patience... I had little patience left cos I reminded the staff to check on my order - TWICE - and still no lunch.

And as much as I appreciated it - I thought they went overboard with their service recovery efforts - gave me and my colleague a single scoop of chocolate chip ice cream each - which was actually very nice - and a 20% discount voucher... and when we were done with their freebies and was about to leave - we were served a Molten Chocolate Lava Cake. OK, OK... I get it... you feel really, really terrible over the poor service - you’re forgiven - just don’t give us any more food...!!

The first time I had this, the fried chicken was so good that I told myself that I’m gonna get 2 pieces of chicken the next time I’m there. And so I did...!!

The meal came with steamed rice that has been steamed individually in aluminium cups - giving the rice a soft and fluffy texture, a well marinated fried chicken thigh - crispy on the outside and so very moist on the inside, a half of a hard-boiled egg, achar, and Sambal Belacan Chili packed with fiery punch.

My lunch cost me $9 ($4 for the additional piece of chicken) - a little more than what I’d spent for lunch in a coffeeshop - but it was well worth it...!!
