Ordered the Smoke Shack burger - it was basically a cheeseburger that came with Applewood smoked bacon, chopped cherry pepper, and ShackSauce. While I enjoyed it, I should have ordered the Shack Burger instead and especially since that was the burger that they recommended for those first-timers at Shake Shack. I should have heeded their advice. The reason - cos the bacon on my burger was a little salty and the flavour of the Angus beef patty sort of got lost in it. Oh well, maybe this gives me a reason to visit the Jewel again...!!

Decided to head there for dinner with the family. Checked out the individual stations at this Swiss-style foodcourt a few times before joining the long queue for some Rosti with sour cream and sausage ($16.9) - a little overpriced don’t you think considering that’s its only grated potatoes, sour cream and sausage. Anyway, the potato pancake, freshly pan-fried till golden brown, was crispy on the outside yet soft on the inside - and the lightly seasoned Rosti went well with the juicy and salty pork sausage. It didn’t look much - but surprisingly, it was quite filling.

I guess Tonkatsu must be treating their staff well for them to stay that long! Awesome...!!

However I can’t say the same for their Katsu. Although it was deep fried till golden brown - I could taste and see the layer of undercooked batter between the meat and the fried outer crust. And the miso soup was - meh! I don’t remember if the set dinner still comes with fruits - cos they didn’t serve us - and we also forgot to ask for it. Oh well. Dinner was OK - but definitely not one for the better Katsu that I’ve had...and maybe that explains why we haven’t gone there for a long time.

Plum Glazed Blueberries on Almond Frangipane and with my usual - flat white coffee.

The filling of the tart was a little sweeter than what I would have liked - but hey, it’s a tart and it’s supposed to be sweet. In any case, it went really well with my Flat White coffee. However, I felt that the crust was a tad hard - had to use strength to cut into it. But overall, it was a nice treat and I did enjoy my alone time over this - would definitely come back to try their other tarts created by Les Amis group pastry Chef...!!

A colleague of mine LOVES having Bai Nian YTF so much that he had 3 bowls in a day - one for breakfast and 2 bowls in the afternoon... he even sent me pix to tempt me.

Well, he succeeded cos I started to crave for it...so headed down to People's Park Food Centre on my off day to get me-self a BIG bowl ($5.50) comprising of Bee Hoon (Rice Vermicelli) and 9 pieces of Yong Tau Foo made from prawn, pork and fish paste. As always, my bowl of Hakka noodle soup did not disappoint- so much flavour in that bowl of savoury goodness - broth, noodle and all. Now I’m satisfied...!!

Lunched at Fook Kin today. Ordered a small Char Siew Platter, a quarter of the Angelica Herb Sauce (Dang Gui) Roasted Duck and a bowl of minced pork noodle to go with all my proteins.

So this was my first time here. Didn’t quite know what to expect. Well, I was not disappointed...!! The caramelised char siew was tender, flavourful and had the right amount of fat and char. The dish came with some sauce - but I found it a little too sweet for me. As for the Dang Gui Roasted Duck, I would have loved a stronger Dang Gui flavour. But overall, it was still good. Meat was tender and it went well with the plum sauce. And finally, the noodles - springy and topped with a generous portion of minced pork. Although it tasted a little plain but what made it really nice was those crispy pork lard...and I guess with those flavours coming from the char siew and Dang Gui Roasted Duck, it was fine. Well, this is definitely a place worth revisiting...!!

This time, I requested for more Gula Melaka cos I wanted it a little sweeter and I’m glad I did - made it a perfect ice cold dessert to beat our unpredictable Summer heat...!!

My daughter claimed that she was really full after lunch - but I guess there’s always room for ice cream...!! Earl Grey Ice Cream - bold and intensely flavoured - if you like tea, you’d like this velvety sweet treat - it was pretty tea-rriffic if you ask me...!!

As for my flat white - I udderly didn’t like it at all...I don’t blame them since this isn’t a coffee place - well, bad coffee is better than no coffee at all...!!

This was Duck noodle with added Roasted Pork at Master Choy...!!

The egg noddle, tossed in some savoury sauce was, thin and springy. The roasted duck was nicely roasted, meat was tender and its skin was almost crispy. The Roasted Pork had the right amount of meat and fat. It was tender, not overly salty and the skin was incredibly crispy - I could hear the crunch when I bit into it - definitely the star of today’s meal...!!
