One of my favourite bakeries in Singapore period. Today the layered Danish pastry of the sugar snail was extra decadent with soft yet detailed “laminated” layers and just the right sweetness from a light sugar coat.
My takeaway for the next day apple cinnamon bun was great lightly toasted, with delicious apple cinnamon chunks and an interesting bread base.

Would order every pain au suisse chocolate I see recently because I am a quite sucker for the fine threads that sings beauty!
The ones I fancy are of course that explained as “plain croissant layered with another croissant with layers facing up” by Mr Holmes Bakehouse. While their rendition did do the bake justice I might have had a better one elsewhere 🫢
As for our chosen cruffin, it came a little dry even without reheating, which wasnt a significant problem with the generous amount of pleasantly sweet strawberry shortcake flavoured cream.
Also whatever beans they were using, my hot long black was “worth every penny I paid”.

Back at La Levain where I was first introduced to pain au suisse chocolate! The ones you find here are the finest as with most of their bakes.
We also had an American cinnamon roll which was a refreshing rendition of the good ol classic for me. Topped with icing sugar a danish pastry swirl was smattered with cinnamon - this was another real treat!

Easily my favourite meal in JB recently, doing chinese cuisine full justice was this fresh and soft garoupa fish in a light sauce that is all you will need.

We also had other typical dishes like duck, pork ribs, vegetables and their signature handmade parsley beancurd which were all well done. Bonus points is the indoor air conditioned setting at Pekin. There is much reasons why the restaurant takes the space of 2 building within the street.

“Ugly Delicious” - ugly photo, of which I take full blame of but delicious sticky cinnamon bun.
In fact this is (IMHO) the best cinnamon bun in Singapore because it’s simple (no cream cheese fan fare needed) yet so gratifying 🥹
Fresh soft white bun with just enough sticky cinnamon syrup ✨

Back to my bread and pastry streak over the weekends and we checked out this new bakery (suited for takeaways) in our neighbourhood.

Resident Baker and owner here offers fuss free classic bread and pastries that bring a lot of hope to the European bread scene in Singapore! We packed a sourdough loaf too which was wholesomely delightful! Looking forward to pay more return visits!

Underwhelming chimaek experience with the mother a couple of weeks ago… and this was accentuated by the fact we had queued on a Saturday night for close to an hour.
The soybean paste stew also didn’t wow the golden palates especially when mum had just return from South Korea. That said the place draws a crowd for fuss free casual Korean dining.
And we will choose BHC our new favourite Korean fried chicken over this any day.

Is it age but the year end festive feasting and catchups that actually transpire to burpple posts have been very difficult to keep up with… but here is one over a nice Sunday.
Lola’s was a go to when I was 18 and 10 years later the cafe soldiers on with delicious brunch fare. My sweet waffle was crisp and light with the gratifyingly rich chocolate nama that melts as you dig in, acting like a thick spread to complement the berries and waffle. Then if you’d like to have a ferrero rocher taste the hazelnut ice cream does the trick.

As I begin to be more aware of coffee and beans recently, I got a black coffee with the seasonal beans from luliroasts. The decision felt like a quick win (paying just 50cents more) the minute the palate tasted the described notes of this roast.

To make yourself less guilty about having Singapore kaya toast, have them with PS cafe’s white ash sourdough toast and pay a premium for it 🤓 Jokes aside this was a nice breakfast item at the longstanding food establishment!

Absolute delight near the office from this nostalgic old school bakery. This gem does fuss free small breads and cakes at prices you can hardly find around Singapore. They added color (just like the sprinkles) to a mundane work day ✨

That cross section of a sandwich that tasted every bit as good as it looked. A special mention on the tangy rich aioli like sauce that was impossible to resist and went well with the classic combination of avocado, scrambled eggs and melted cheese.
You’d dream about this vegeterian sandwich.
