Finally made my way to @sumiya.sg to try its affordable lunch sets.
.
The mixed bara kaisen don set (S$20.80++) comes with an appetiser, salad, pickles, miso soup, chawanmushi and mochi dessert.
.
At the stroke of noon, you can see rows of bowls sitting on the sushi bar, all ready to be churned out like a factory for guests who come to order the popular chirashi sets. Its popularity is a true testament to how fresh those large sashimi chunks are.
.
I left extremely satisfied, both stomach and wallet wise. Lunch orders are from 12nn to 2:30pm.

Pretty value for money with quite a generous portion and it comes with soup and chawanmushi! My only gripe is what started out as fresh sashimi became the warmest bowl of kaisen don I've ever eaten, possibly thanks to this dreaded weather. πŸ™„πŸ”₯

HAPPENING NOW: In light of @superbowlsg opening its doors for business, they're having a promotion you can't miss.

From 10th May till 12th May, enjoy their fresh Fish Bowls at only $5 each. Yes, no typo there - FIVE! Only applicable when you order together with the set meal for another $5. You get a generous portion of salted edamame and a beverage. Still, the usual price for a bowl is a crazy affordable $10.

Indulge in fresh slabs of salmon, tuna and swordfish sashimi on a bed of Japanese short-grain rice.

Also, don't forget to check out their other rice bowls including beef and aburi sashimi.

It's what we need right now in the CBD with the sheer lack of affordable, fast, fresh and healthier foods. The setting may seem no frills but the food is definitely of quality.

Farewell to salted egg yolk and hello to honey butter!

The cornbread was fluffy in the inside and crumbly on the outside BUT THE HONEY BUTTER. It was sweet and salty at the same time, perplexing my tastebuds. I just wanted more and more to pinpoint the taste but sadly I had run out. I wish I had more though!

Thanks #campkilocharcoalclub for accommodating me over the weekend!

To negate the scrumptious sinfulness of @camp_kilo's ribs, I opted for the seemingly healthier Burnt Carrots (price TBC) for my sides. It could pass off as a salad right? Right?

At most times I hate carrots, but this time was definitely an exception. The carrots were slightly charred on one side yet still having that lovely raw-like crunch to them. On top were dollops of Chef @nickolinik's homemade cottage cheese and sate sauce that would make his mum proud. Together with some gorgeous plums and fried garlic, this ensemble could pass off as a main course altogether.

I certainly hope this dish remains on the menu!

Had a little sneak preview of @kilokitchen's new concept - Camp Kilo Charcoal Club (@camp_kilo) this weekend.

In the preview, I got a taste of their succulent Pork Ribs (price TBC). These tender ribs were a confit of the pork's own lard. The ribs were then grilled in their signature Kilo chipotle BBQ sauce, which resulted in a lip-and-finger smacking rack of ribs.

Besides ribs, they also offered pig head terrine and roast pig. I guess I've got no choice but to head back when it opens!
Thanks #campkilocharcoalclub for accommodating me and @misterlim for the jio!

Got to see what's brewing for this year's upcoming #BeerfestAsia last night!

We got to sample just a fraction of the 500 different beers that will be available at the 8th edition of the festival - the biggest yet!
From beers that are brewed with oysters, lagers made from the most expensive Japanese rice to delicate flavours such as coconut and lime cider and honey mead, your tastebuds will be busy the whole day.

@BeerfestAsia runs from the 16th to the 19th of June and tickets and VIP passes are available on SISTIC or beerfestasia.com.

It'll be a great weekend filled with beer (obvs), food and entertainment. Cheers!

Thanks to @foodnewspr and @burpple for giving us a sneak preview! 🍻

Chicks & Beer. I mean chimaek or Korean fried chicken and beer.

This place located in the middle of #Hongdae seemed popular with the locals. I was surprised at the gargantuan portions they were serving. We came hoping to tuck into something small for supper as we were feeling a tiny bit peckish. However, we had no problem gobbling down the addictive boneless fried chicken (β‚©15,000 or S$17.80) and guzzling down beer because they were that good.

I don't think this place was the best place for fried chicken because there was no wow factor (and I think it's impossible to try ALL the chimaek establishments in #Seoul), but it was pretty darn good and especially with the salt and hot sauce.

I was never a big fan of matcha but you don't know how matcha I love it now!

@osulloc_official is the pinnacle of green tea goodness. I absolutely loved their green tea in all its forms. I especially love the matcha ice cream and the cream-filled Swiss roll. They had a set going for β‚©14,000 or S$16.50 which included an iced/hot latte, scoop of velvety ice cream and their signature cake. It's perfect for anyone to just relax and enjoy calming and subtle but awe-inspiring green tea goodies.

#Osulloc has many branches in #Seoul but I'd recommend the one at #Myeongdong or #Insadong as they've sample stations and information counters to help non-Korean speakers.

Gettin' jjigae with it.

Budae jjigae doesn't sound that appealing especially to foodies. It originates from wartime when people would prepare new meals by mixing leftovers together.

Who knew that processed food would be so appealing? This amalgamation of hot dogs, spam, tteok, gochujang and kimchi was utterly shiok to devour.

This Shimson Stew Set Menu (β‚©34,000 or S$39.90 for four persons! Smaller portions are available) is a modern take on budae jjigae and includes 100% mozzarella cheese, spicy pork, potato croquettes and beef brisket. One can complete this sinful meal with hot butter rice or instant noodles. MmmMmm.

This restaurant in particular is famous with locals and celebrities so you can be assured that the food tastes good.

μˆ˜μš”μΌ or Cafe Wednesday knows how to make a mean patbingsu (β‚©9,000 or S$10.50). The bowl contains fresh sliced almonds, roasted ground bean powder, condensed milk and chewy injeolmi.

It's a sweet and refreshing dessert to relax with while taking a break from walking down the streets of #Insadong.

When I first laid my tastebuds on Korean Mandu, it was pure love. We had the mandu from Bukchon Son Mandu - a tiny shop along #Insadong relatively popular with the locals. We had the Combination Platter (β‚©12,000 or S$14.20) that consisted of steamed or fried and stuffed with fillings like kimchi, prawn or pork.

The dumplings were evidently fresh, delicious and the best I've had in #SouthKorea so far.
