All of #LukesLobster outlets’ seafood is sustainably caught, flash frozen and shipped from their facility in Maine to ensure quality control. One bite from each delicious roll and you can taste the freshness.

If you’re somewhat indecisive like me, opt for the Luke’s Trio which offers half a roll for the lobster, crab, and shrimp. Though the platter may appear deceivingly small, it is surprisingly filling and extremely satisfying.

All the rolls are served in a hot toasted split-top bun lathered in lemon butter, with a swish of mayo, and topped with their secret signature herb seasoning. The lobster flesh is sweet, thick and definitely a treat. The fine strands of crabmeat tastes reminiscent of the ocean - sweet and fresh. The shrimp was good too but pales in comparison to its other crustacean counterparts.

Delicious ramen at a decent price too!

Had the tsukemen dipping ramen with added spiciness ($14 + $2). I just slurped the entire bowl clean. The ingredients were fresh, the meat was tender, the broth was rich & tasty, and the noodles were pleasantly springy. The ajitama egg is a must add too.

Jinjo is one of my favourite meals of 2020.

Jinjo has been offering pretty value-for-money lunch sets. They have three options for lunch sets: the gyu (beef) at $35++, the tori (poultry) at $25++ and the unagi (eel) at $32++. All sets come with salad, pickles and soup. I opted for the gyu and I was blown away.

The Kagoshima beef was tremendously delicious - it had a good ratio of lean meat to fat, well seasoned and cooked to perfection (medium rare)! However, what really separated Jinjo from other sumiyakis was their care and attention to detail. Most restaurants understandably wouldn’t put too much consideration towards the sides but not at Jinjo. It seemed like every element that was served had a gastronomic purpose. The miso soup was wonderfully rich, the salad was crisp and tasty and even the pickles were beautifully sweet.

Not your typical brunch food but I’m all for it!

Heard good things about SLATE so I went to give it a go. I ultimately picked the sideways omelette, which was one of the most expensive items but its menu description sounded so good.

When I took a bite of the omelette, I experienced a firm but fluffy exterior. As I worked towards the centre, it’s a tad gooey and runny, which is how I love my breakfast omelettes! With the filling, the omelette is packed with handpicked lump blue swimmer crab meat and smoked crab fat. It definitely tasted luxurious and furthermore it was sizeable so the price tag seemed worth it! The omelette is topped with tobiko and served with a side of snow pea shoots and carrot salad to break the egg-iness if needed.

Will definitely be back to try more dishes!

The toastest with the mostest!

I had no idea what to expect when I ordered two pieces of ā€œcedar jelly and foie gras toastā€. When it was served, I uttered the quietest ā€œohā€ under my breath. I thought to myself, what is this bread with pencil shavings. Well, I really didn’t know better.

Upon my first bite, I was jolted by the rich flavour derived from the frozen foie gras shavings. The foie gras then immediately melted in my mouth to form a luscious meaty salty butter of sorts that complement the sweet delectable cedar jelly spread on a slice of toasted brioche.

This is the epitome of not judging a book by its cover. A book that I would love to revisit anytime.

Always down for an old classic cheeseburger!

There’s a relatively new burger/grill joint nestled in a coffeeshop along Sunset Way. Torched.sg offers not just satisfying burgers but grilled meats, comforting sides and even rice bowls.

The burgers come with velvety melted American cheddar cheese, crunchy gherkins, delicious relish, delicately grilled buttered buns and a side of addictively crisp shoestring fries.

What stands out are the meat patties. I’ve tried the burgers on separate occasions and they were cooked perfectly both times. A nice char to give that nicely seasoned thick beef patty a beautiful bite. A single, double and triple patty burger would offset you $10, $14 and $18 respectively. Money well spent!

The latest and hottest place to brunch at right now.

It’s only been a few weekends since Cheek Bistro started their brunch offering and the reception has been great.

I personally loved all the dishes my guest and I ordered but there are still many more that I’ve yet to try and very much want to.

A favourite of mine is definitely their ā€œNot Hot Chickenā€. It’s a medley of beautiful textures and flavours. From the crisp yet unbelievably juicy buttermilk quail (yes, it’s quail and not actually chicken) to the fluffy and light waffles. From the sweet smoked maple sauce, to the crunchy sour sliced pickles.

This dish garnered a positive physical response from my body, of one that I shouldn’t describe in detail.

Best doughnuts ever.

I’ve seen glimpses of these brioche doughnuts from Burnt Ends Bakery all over social media and I couldn’t help but wonder, ā€œare they that good?ā€ They’re just doughnuts and with a rather steep price tag if I might add. Well, my curiosity got the better of me so I ordered three boxes of different flavours and my fulfilment date was a whole week later. Wow. At least this gave me something to look forward to.

A week had passed and this was probably the most exciting thing to happen to me during the circuit breaker. Sad, I know. Well, the verdict was, the doughnuts were worth the price and the wait.

The texture was unbelievably great. The sugary coated exterior had a nice doughy bite while the interior had a pillowy consistency. The filling to dough ratio was about 4:5.

I’m sucker for simple flavours like its vanilla chantilly cream and Nutella which are GREAT but I’d totally recommend its passionfruit curd. It’s a perfect balance of sweet and tangy.

For the flavoured brioche doughnuts, a half dozen box goes for $24+ and a baker’s dozen goes for $52+.

Pasta cravings satisfied at LINO Pasta Bar!

I was pleasantly surprised at how value-for-money the ā€œMad About Pasta Tasting Menuā€ was at LINO Pasta Bar. For just S$32++, I got an appetiser, three pastas and a dessert. Take note that it’s only available for dinner service!

Though the appetisers and dessert were satisfying, the pastas - of course - were the main stars of the show. They’ve each been down scaled to a 50g portion so that one would be able to try different pastas without getting too full.

1. Cold angel hair pasta with yuzu, salted seaweed and ikura - simply delicious, nicely seasoned and those globules of salmon roe were fresh and magical.

2. Penne, spicy tomato sauce, pancetta, Italian sausage - a hearty and homely dish. The penne trapped the addictively spicy sauce that ensured a kick with each bite. The pancetta and sausage added a nice saltiness to the pasta.

3. Rigatoni oxtail in Tiger Beer and black pepper sauce, arugula - this was a winner. The oxtail was wonderfully tender and the black pepper sauce with a hint of alcohol was brilliantly luscious.

Overall, it was a simple, homely and good meal that didn’t break the bank. I’ll definitely come back again to satiate my pasta cravings.
