Back at STRAY by Fatcat to try its other signature, the salmon Yu-sheng bowl.
•
It's exactly as how you would envision the taste to be like - yusheng. The rice bowl has solid salmon chunks but the taste has been overpowered by the sweet plum sauce. It also has loads of my favourite crunchy prosperity crackers that add texture to a typical salmon bowl. Don't forget the onsen egg buried underneath all the louhei components to gel everything together.
The infamous Por Kee champagne pork ribs!
The champagne pork short ribs [S$22 pictured/33/44++] have a beautiful glaze - a mix of sweet and salty. Though the meat isn't "fall-off-the-bone" tender, it's still really easy to bite and chew. Just having this with white rice is perfect.
This zi char restaurant sells great food but be wary of the price and portions. It feels more like a tourist trap in Tiong Bahru.
Better than Chatuchak's!
Kin Cow's coconut ice-cream is rich, creamy and fluffy and it tastes exactly how fresh coconut should. It's a generous portion that fills half a coconut and topped with peanuts and mung beans. A satisfying way to end a meal.
My best friends got married.
What a lovely combo. Bacon and beer! Oh, Bacon! by Hong Kong Black Kite Brewery (@plan.b.asia) is a smokey malt with bacony goodness from nose to finish. 5.4% ABV... perfect for breakfast. Only at Beerfest Asia!
Salmon belly for my belly!
The salmon belly sukiyaki & tempura set is really worthwhile. Besides sliced flame-seared salmon belly chunks, there's vegetables aplenty like enoki and shiitake mushrooms, spinach and napa cabbage as well as silken tofu. The set also includes Prawn and vegetable tempura, rice and miso soup.
This place is one of my favourite places to have sukiyaki because the sukiyaki broth is sweet and not too salty and the salmon chunks are thick and firm.
A bowl full of immense flavour.
Arrived at STRAY by Fatcat which is obscurely located on the 4th floor of Orchard Central without expecting anything but I was blown away.
The Black Pepper Wagyu Beef is an interesting take on zi char styled Black Pepper Beef. The Wagyu come from Australia and has a marbling score of 8/9. More interestingly is the addition of a pink ginger foam that adds a subtle hint of warm spice that complements the Sichuan Black Pepper sauce. It's definitely an enhanced version of the classic Wagyu beef don and onsen egg combo. #burpproved
The coma-inducing Zinger Double Down (S$6.60) is back!
This well-conceived burger (well, not all think this) needs no introduction. The deadly combination of two juicy and spicy Zinger chicken patties with crispy turkey bacon and melted cheddar cheese surely whets one's appetite.
It has a new Hawaiian variant (S$6.90) with an added slice of pineapple and BBQ sauce. This definitely sweetens up the heavily salted original Zinger Double Down. Good luck staying awake after this one!
Looks simple but bursting with flavour.
One of my favourite dishes at Kin Cow - Kailan with Roasted Pork Belly. The fried kailan has the most pleasant wokhei aroma that's amplified even more when tasted. The roasted pork belly had a myriad of textures from the wonderful crispy skin to the gelatinous fat and finally, the tender meat. This dish is so good that you can just eat it with a bowl of rice. (But you should definitely try the other items too.)
Finally got to try The Bakery by Woodlands Sourdough.
I was so intrigued by the flavours that I had to try them all. Ranging from $3-5, these toasts are affordable options for brunch. With unique flavours like "hummus & za'atar", "peanut butter & Sriracha" and "vegemite & cheddar", it'll definitely be an interesting meal.
My favourite is the popular "sage cream cheese & berry compote". The tanginess of the cream cheese complements the sweet of the berry compote as well as the sourness from the sourdough toast. And of course, the sourdough is AWESOME. It's not hard and tough but fluffy with a beautiful crust. Will definitely come back. #burpproved
No time to queue for Man Man? Consider this collab available at Teppei Syokudo!
For a limited time only, there are three unagi bento dishes available at Teppei Syokudo. The Unagi Tamago Don called out to me because it had the two things I loved from Man Man: the unagi and the sweet thick slices of tamago.
The unagi tastes and feels fresh as it's airflown from Japan four times a week. Nothing beats eating at the actual Man Man restaurant but this will do to satisfy the cravings.
The diet-breaker.

Another dish in @wsingapore's SKIRT's new menu. This dessert will make your heart miss a beat.

The Torched Bourbon Lardy Cake (S$18++), as the name suggests, is one sinful dish. On top of a soft creamy dollop of bourbon banana ice-cream, lays a beef fat-infused lardy bread with a drizzle of salted caramel sauce and bits of crumble rocks. #burpproved
Perfection.
W Singapore's SKIRT has a new menu which includes a few signatures from the last menu as well as a brand new dishes to excite our tastebuds.
Upon entering the restaurant, one can't ignore the centrepiece of the restaurant, their signature Parilla grill. With it, chefs grill prime cuts of meat to divine perfection.
I absolutely fell in love with the 30-Day Dry Aged Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Tomahawk steak. The dry ageing process helps to break down the collagen and muscle fibres in the steak to make it so much more tender. Also, the moisture is removed hence the meat is not bloody and the flavour is more concentrated.
Is it worth the price? I say "hell yeah". #burpproved
