A rare day where I had prata for brunch and nasi lemak and beef rendang for dinner at Fusion Spoon, a basement food court at Singapore Botanic Gardens (near the carpark) which I didnât know existed. The nasi lemak and beef rendang was $8 plus GST, no service charge. The sambal was really amazing, I loved it. The nasi lemak itself was not bad, the rice was nice and coconut-y but portion could have been more. The price makes this probably the most value for money/cheapest main to order here! (The menu is online, thereâs Japanese and Western food here too, but I think the nasi lemak is probably most worth ordering. You can have it with prawns, rendang chicken or turmeric deep fried chicken drumlet). I still maintain that the best rendang has to be the kind homecooked by aunties, but this is probably worth eating if youâre at Botanic Gardens and youâre feeling hungry đŹđ
Long story short: Tea and tarts good, service pretty bad on both occasions (pictured: lemon & sea buckthorn tart)
Enjoyed the Thai food here at this Thai restaurant near Marymount MRT station! Itâs somewhat of a hidden gem. I had the olive fried rice, tom yum soup and fish cakes. It was all good, exactly what I would expect and not too painfully salty. The prices are also pretty reasonable, the atmosphere feels almost like youâre not in Singapore (it doesnât have that commercialised, ubiquitous, modern look). It just looks like a spacious, family owned Thai place with lots of crookedly framed photographs of famous Thai people. Also - I think Thai food tastes different in different parts of the world. Iâm convinced thereâs authentic Thai food, Thai food catered to Singaporean tastebuds, New Zealand Thai food, and so on and so forth.
Interesting and new Danish cafe at Isetan, with a modern twist to the humble Danish butter cookie.
My first time trying Johnâs Pizzeria!!
This is a deep dish pizza. Expect thick fluffy sourdough pizza base. There wasnât any pizza crust, rather, it was entirely CRISPY CHEESE as a crust! Interesting. The cheese was quite bitter and tasty. Like deep fried parmesan. The entire pizza is v v cheesy. After a few hours after eating got quite thirsty.
The pepperoni was yum. But I think itâs better to eat there than eat like at home. Because when we started eating it wasnât really piping hot anymore and had gone cold :(
Price wise it was quite expensive for what it is. There may be minimum spend for delivery. Like for Farrer Road, minimum spend for delivery was $50 so we ordered a salad too. Received a chocolate biscuit on the house which was massive and full of cookie dough flavour. Not bad similar to Subway cookie but much thicker and taller!
Gluten free penne with pork & fennel sausage (more like a patty though!), garlic, peas, spinach, sesame seeds.
Corned beef, honey baked ham, swiss cheese, bechamel sauce, carolina mustard and a fried egg in a sesame seed bagel! đ„Ż
Who else falls for pretty cakes? Had this for tea break today, and it tasted like alcohol in cake form, the centre buttercream has lots of marsala wine. The sponge layers have a bread-like flavour/texture, and the cream on top is ordinary cream (my mom calls it âfake creamâ, itâs not fresh cream). Kind of expensive for what it is, and some of the servers are quite snobby like they own the shop and are doing a favour by answering our questions. Um, maybe put a label so people know what cakes are for sale and how much? đđȘ Anyway, it comes with a blackberry and a goldleaf dusted Malteser on top, but will probably give this a miss next time - there are better cakes out there like the Carrot Whiskey Sultana.
Aloo Gobi - $12.90
Dal Tadka - $12.90
Tandoori Chicken 2 piece - $9
Garlic Naan 1 piece - $4
This was my lunch today, my first time ordering from Indian Curry House.
FYI: currently thereâs 20% off first time orders on their website and 15% off for subsequent orders.
Aloo Gobi - Wish there was more cauliflower. Didnât quite appreciate the oil smell. Also found it too cheesy for my liking. Definitely have has better versions of this elsewhere. The portion is pretty huge, maybe for 2-4 people. Found this a little off putting.
Dal Tadka - Passable, thereâs quite a lot of lentils. But itâs lacking in spices a little. Have had more delicious yelow dal elsewhere. Portion also pretty huge maybe for 2-4 people.
Tandoori Chicken 2 pieces - Nothing really bad to say. Itâs not bad. Just a little burnt. Smells good! The smell of the tandoori chicken when I walk past the restaurant was actually what drew me in in the first place.
Garlic Naan: Sadly disappointing. A little oily and rubbery. It looks kind of like a chapati. Not fluffy and crispy and garlicky as it should be! Pretty meh would not order again I think, didnât really enjoy this.
On the whole, I found the food expensive and the prices not really justified for the taste and quality.
I miss Gayatri, the Indian restaurant near my office! Itâs a lot better!
âWelcome to Good Burger, home of the Good Burger! Can I take your order?â đđ
The Goodburger Black Tie with Truffle Fries [$21]
Impossible patty, brioche bun, cheese, rocket, truffle aioli, pickles.
Decided to go for a walk and ended up buying into the hype that is the Goodburger Impossible food truck. Wish there was more rocket and I donât really get why people like Impossible (why? Itâs much more unhealthy than eating beef). The first time I had it was at Fatburger in Beverly Hills, and I thought it didnât really taste like beef. This one tasted a little more beef-like, but the burger and fries, especially the patty, were drenched in oil. Literally couldnât finish this because I felt like puking every time I had a bite (itâs really very oily). The fries were also way too salty and pretty ordinary for truffle fries. Thankfully I had a salad on standby đ Also, thank god for air-conditioning and root beer. Absolute lifesavers. No more Impossible for me please.
Day 5 of Circuit Breaker: Itâs my mumâs birthday today so I treated my parents to 2 chicken & waffles (and 2 scrambled eggs) đ§đ The delivery came with two tubs of honey tabasco sauce, maple butter and a free brownie! I thought the food would arrive at 12pm since that was the delivery timing and was told there would be a delay but it actually came before 11.30am, so thatâs something to consider when ordering food delivery đ
