Project Acai Lemon Parfait [$12]
Decided to try this yummy acai creation on @desireeweee's recommendation!
The @projectacai lemon parfait consists of: a special blend of lemon and acai, nut butter, dried coconut, goji berries, strawberries, bananas, cacao nibs, granola, pineapple and mango!
Surprisingly, it wasn't at all tangy and sour and I loved how everything went extremely well together. This lemon and acai mix needs to be permanently on the menu 😂 Really liked the crunch of the sweet granola and coconut paired with the refreshing citrus fruits. For fans of citrusy flavours, this is a must try! 🍋
Saw the lady next to me having a bowl of oden and I couldn't decide whether to try it or order my usual buta shogayaki don. After mulling over it for a while, I knew hands down that if I didn't order that oden, I would regret it for the rest of the night 😂 And so I ordered it! This was my first time having oden in Singapore and the second time having oden in my life. Man, it was so delicious and comforting. There's a lot of umami and earthy, bean-like flavour to it. Essentially, it tastes very home-made and not commercialised and as though it's been cooked for many, many hours. I did feel (in a good way) that the oden was very traditional and extremely close to the real deal yet it catered to S'porean tastebuds (i.e. by being more flavourful and savoury and not so strange as to be an acquired taste). Inside this bowl there were a few different varieties of beancurd (that came in different textures and softness), daikon, and also, konnyaku. To sum it all up, there's really nothing quite like a heavenly bowl of oden to warm up the soul! 😌
Really affordable and delicious. The portion is just right, not too much and not too little! Comes with prawn, octopus, tuna, salmon and ikura. If I'm not mistaken, the rice is sushi rice and so so addictive. Well worth a try. But be warned, it's a very popular store so it's very likely there will be a long snaking queue. And don't trust Google when it comes to figuring out the estimated waiting time! HAHA.
Da Paolo Gastronomia just re-opened at Raffles Medical @ Holland V. They have a new concept "Greens & Grains", a healthy customisable food bowl. Here's what you can choose from!
Admittedly, I've never had real authentic Shakshuka in my life before so I don't really know what to compare this to!
The bread was quite hard on the outer edges but soft in the middle. As for the 🍅 sauce, it tasted kind of like it came from a can. Actually, almost everything seems more "assembled" type of food as opposed to really being "cooked".
We also had an Arizona tea as well as an iced chocolate which was quite watered down and not chocolatey. Didn't finish it :/
The Avocado [$15] main was quite disappointing in comparison. There was hardly any avocado to speak of and it tasted like it came from a can and not like fresh avo. It was hardly "smashed avocado" and whatever it was, paired with ridiculous amounts of mayo on top of a sad pancake was just miserable. I took a few bites and didn't finish my food 🥑 There were bits of salad stuck in my scrambled eggs which was also weird. The food wasn't nice and hot either. Would not recommend!
However, McDonald's at Serene Centre is a pretty good alternative to Sugarhaus.
This ramen was quite worth it for under $10! Tried this at Changi Airport before our flight.
Definitely better than instant noodles. The noodles were nice and firm. The broth was oilier than at Ippudo at Mandarin Gallery, but was still quite alright to eat. The broth tasted like it was made with chicken bones, and had a strong gingery flavour to it!
This is the cheapest bowl of ramen you can get at Ippudo Express and comes with a single slice of pork shoulder loin. I think I wouldn't mind eating here again in future!
The prettiest mac and cheese I've ever seen. Nothing screams "hipster food establishment" like serving food that isn't cheese on a wooden board ~ This was a SUPER SINFUL lunch with 3 types of cheese thrown in - I'm guessing parmesan, some American cheese, and mozzarella? And ⚠️: I found this tomato-based mac and cheese unexpectedly spicy 🌶 Underneath all that cheese and shell pasta was a pretty generous amount of green chili and yellow courgette. I did feel that it could do with more ground beef and rocket though! This was my second time visiting Breko Cafe, the 1st time being when I was still in school and went to Breko for a class outing 😂
The original tonkotsu ramen from Ippudo. Comes with pork belly & pork loin, beansprouts, black fungus, and spring onion. A classic Hakata ramen.
I left wishing the ramen was a little saltier and a little more tasty! I found it to be a bit bland and a little on the watery/diluted side. Felt like it was missing some oomph. Maybe the broth could have been cooked longer!
I chose the "Medium" noodles but I think "Hard" noodles would have been a better option as that would probably have been al dente.
Really glad I got to try out Elemen at Millenia Walk for dinner, because I've always been curious as to what their food is like.
From their shopfront, I always thought that they served Chinese food with a twist (Which they do. The food is vegetarian and fusion, i.e. East meets West in this case).
Most of the menu contains mushrooms, which may be a good or bad thing depending on your preference.
This dish came in a claypot and it was sizzling! I love claypot rice and this was pretty well executed. It has white quinoa, brown rice, black rice, curly kale (!) and red and green capsicum.
Taste-wise it was nutty and slightly peppery. The grains were well-cooked and not dry and the portion size was actually quite large :) Needless to say, this rice bowl is low in calories and healthy (unlike those super greasy, MSG-filled claypot rice you can get literally everywhere). It took me some time to finish eating though.
I liked that my meal was so tasty without being oily, so props to the chef for knowing what he/she is doing! 👨🏻🍳👩🏻🍳
For the full menu, you can check out http://www.elemen.com.sg PS. They have sticky date pudding! 😱
Each serving of scrambled eggs consists of 2 rich, golden New Zealand organic eggs. The colour is enough to tell you it's no ordinary egg. The eggs are creamy and delightful. I always sprinkle tons of black peppercorn to enhance the flavour. Don't forget to save some sourdough because eggs on toast is pure bliss.
Needless to say, House of AnLi is my favourite brunch place in Singapore. The food quality is really good. The amount of sunshine is fab. It's also the first place I've had Belgian food at as well! Do try everything on the menu.
This cake is filled with layers and layers of cream and mille crepe goodness atop a soft, fluffy sponge cake base. This simple yet delectable dessert is my favourite and must-order from Châteraisé!
Price-wise, I would say it's pretty decently priced at $4.70 for a slice of yummy, not-too-sinful goodness.
At the time I was wavering between buying Awfully Chocolate's chocolate crepe cake and Châteraisé for this White Zebra. The two stores face each other so it was like a face-off of mille crepe cakes.
In the end, Châteraisé triumphed because their slices were bigger and almost half the price of Awfully Chocolate's!
