Today is the first (and last) time I’ve ever ordered a drink from LiHo. I asked what’s the difference between the Singapore Fruit Tea and the Korea Fruit Tea; the former has passionfruit while the latter allegedly has yuzu. So I went with the latter which tastes like citron tea. Actually, citron (a Korean fruit) and yuzu (a Japanese fruit) are two totally different fruits, and this drink had lots of citron peel and flavour, watermelon, lime and orange slices. And lots of ice.

I said no to the small plastic carrier but I still feel so guilty/regretful because of the unnecessary amount of plastic involved. As a consumer, I would like to contribute less to environmental damage by cutting down or ideally cutting out cold takeaway drinks such as Starbucks, bubble tea entirely. Food outlets can cut down reliance on plastic by swapping to biodegradable, more environmentally friendly products like bioplastics or encouraging customers to bring back their reusable plastic cups.

Governments can increase the availability of recycling bins in areas with high human traffic and disposal of plastic waste (In Tokyo and London, there are many such recycling bins for metals, plastics, etc.) to reduce the number of tonnes of waste we, as humans, produce. In 2018, we produced so many million tonnes of rubbish that by 2035, the one and only landfill in Singapore will be completely full. Just think about it, a man-made island for our trash will have literally no more room to store the plastic water bottles, plastic bags, etc that we used once and threw away.

We might throw a plastic cup away after a single use and forget all about it but that piece of plastic will continue to exist on our earth for a long time. And it will slowly make its way in the form of micro plastics into the fish/meat/water we consume.

As NTU academic Sonny Ben Rosenthal puts it, “There is no rubbish piling up in the streets, so Singaporeans don’t perceive a waste problem or feel personally responsible to reduce waste.”

🎉🎉🎉 Congrats to @dosiraksg for opening a brand new outlet at @313somerset #B2-15 (It’s located on the same floor as Somerset MRT)!

Now you can satisfy your customised bibimbap cravings when you’re in Orchard 😋 P.S. All their gochujang sauces and kimchi are based on family recipes and are totally traditional and homemade, not store bought. P.P.S. My favourite main is definitely the beef bulgogi 🐮

Three scrambled eggs (any style), ham, hash browns and a buttermilk biscuit (kind of like a salty scone, would probably go well with clotted cream and jam). A slightly healthier breakfast compared to the other stuff on the menu at @clintonst_sg. But all round a good all day breakfast place if you’re craving an American style breakfast 😋 I’m still a fan of their chocolate pancakes which smell so good.

The signature cream puff from Baristart did not disappoint! 😍 The size is pretty massive for one person to eat, so definitely share 😂 Slicing the crunchy exterior reveals a super generous filling of whipped custard made with Hokkaido Biei Jersey milk 🐮

This parfait is available at Baristart Coffee until 22 May! Contains red beans, Japanese strawberries, green tea ice cream, sakura ice cream, shiratama mochi, crushed pistachio, whipped cream, sakura jelly, matcha warabi mochi, agar, brittle, sakura meringue.

Verdict: A very pretty and filling dessert. It was messy to eat given that it was overflowing with ingredients, and was in a glass with ice cream melting and flowing onto the table 🙈 Felt like there were too many flavours going on and the price was a little steep. Perhaps it’s better to eat this kind of thing in Japan 🇯🇵

Grilled kurobuta pork belly with homemade teriyaki sauce, Japanese mustard greens, green onion, Japanese seven spice, Japanese rice and miso soup.

Verdict: The portions here are massive (which explains the price?) and somehow all of the bowls/plates are really greasy/sticky (which explains no service charge?) 🤨 The meat was really generous but I wish it was a little softer, less salty and oily. The Hokkaido rice was okay not bad. The miso soup was ordinary, though it had some bonito flakes in it. I’m just quite thirsty after all of this food and I have a baby too. A food baby... 😂

Finally tried the cream puff from Hattendo. It was quite small and unimpressive... Basically a cream filled puff. I wouldn’t say that the cream was extremely fresh. Think the slightly cheaper one from Chateraise is much much better!

Ramen from Konjiki Hototogisu at Jewel, which is one of the two 1 Michelin starred Tokyo ramen chains at the airport mall, the other being Tsuta. Still don’t understand the hype tagged to Michelin stars, isn’t it literally just one anonymous person’s opinion? ⭐️ 🤷🏻‍♀️ I would say even though I think Konjiki is better than Tsuta, Konjiki is quite average and expensive for what it is plus there’s no customisation option (e.g. if you want pork loin instead of pork belly). Save for white pepper, they don’t provide any condiments and the broth is pretty meh and lacks any umami flavour. imho both ramen places aren’t really worth visiting or queueing for... To conclude, good ramen is honestly hard to find here (and even in Japan) so the search continues 🍜

Finally tried @kanemochi.sg at @jewelchangiairport! It’s essentially mochi covered ice cream. We ordered the party pack for sharing (6 for 12 I believe) Vanilla, Green Tea, Coconut, Chocolate, Cookies and Cream, and Melon 🥳

My favourite is the Chocolate flavour. The melon was a bit too melon and artificial tasting. On the whole, felt it was a bit expensive for what it is and the quantity is a bit too much! Would be nicer if the ice cream was smaller and there was more mochi :)
