For Dim Sum Day Out With Your Folks Concorde Hotel's Xin Cuisine is where filial sons and daughters will want to bring their parents and it's only partly because of the majestic dragon-sculpted gold pillar. Only available for weekday lunch or brunch on weekends, dim sum here is made from the heart and merits praise for consistency. For RM15, their Scallop Dumplings are well-worth its price and your parents will love you for the succulent treat. Both the Lao Sa Bao (RM9.50) and Char Siew Bao (RM9.50) boast soft, pillowy buns and flavour-packed fillings. Finally, attempt to coax your company into sharing an Ice Cream Mango Sago (RM13) — the mango-rich dessert is incredibly smooth, thanks to the presence of creamy coconut milk. Non-halal. For Long-Established Beef Noodles A sister branch of famous Yang Kee in Peel Road, Yang Mooi's excellent beef noodles has been a Cheras-favourite for decades. The signature Claypot Beef Mix (RM10) is a conversation-starter, so perhaps bring a newly acquainted friend to bond over this deeply flavoured stew. Beef noodles come in both soup and dry versions, but at Yang Mooi, the dry Beef Mix Noodle (from RM7.50) fares better with tasty minced beef sauce over egg noodles. The beef mix, including tripe, beef balls and sliced beef, is served swimming in a small bowl of coriander-fragrant soup. For Hokkien Mee Suppers Hokkien mee has always reminded me of supper sessions with my family when I was younger and Sin Kong’s version always reminds me of those nights. The distinguishing characteristic of the Hokkien Mee (from RM7) here is the intense crustacean flavour coupled with the incredibly rich and fragrant taste of pork lard. You can also ask for additional pork lard — it's free of charge! While the restaurant is known for its Hokkien mee, it also boasts a variety of other food stalls hawking tempting local fare like prawn mee, loh mee and even tai chow dishes. Pro tip: The hawker restaurant is constantly packed as it’s located right in the middle of the bustling Taipan Business Centre, so plan your time wisely. Avg Price: RM10

Hokkien Mee The thought of Hokkien Mee has always reminded of supper sessions with my family from when I was younger, restaurant Sin Kong’s Hokkien Mee has always ensured a nostalgic look back in time. The main characteristic of this Hokkien Mee may not be its sauciness as how most would enjoy it but the intensity of the crustacean taste and especially its incredibly strong taste of pork lard makes up for it. (You can also call for additional pork lard free of charge!) A plate would cost you an estimate of RM7 depending on the portion size. Restaurant Sin Kong has been well and solely known for it’s hokkien mee for years, but it is a Kopitiam that also consists of other stalls such as prawn mee, loh mee,and even dai chao dishes. Do note that it’s packed with patrons during lunch and dinner hours as it’s located right in the middle of Taipan’s Business Centre!

For Stellar Curry Chee Cheong Fun Despite its name, customers flock to this curry mee shop for its mouth-watering Curry Chee Cheong Fun (RM4.30). Silky noodles are drenched in mildly spicy curry and topped with braised mushroom and pork. There is also a non-spicy option — Chee Cheong Fun with Mushrooms and Pork (RM4.30) — with a savoury brown sauce instead of curry. For Decades-Old Curry Recipe Ah Yee, meaning 'aunty' in Mandarin, used to peddle curry noodles at a roadside stall. Nearly 20 years later, the Kepong-favourite gets an upgrade to now occupy an airy shoplot along Jalan Kepong Baru. Regulars fill these seats at lunchtime for their famous Curry Chee Cheong Fun (RM4) — a bright-coloured delight that's doused in runny sauce and garnished with sliced pork and fragrant fried onions. Load up your plate with something extra from the tempting trays of Yong Tau Foo (RM1.20 per piece) — our top pick is the fuchuk (beancurd sheets)! Aunty also makes a mean bowl of Curry Noodles (RM5.50), the more luxurious alternative with char siew, fuchuk and rich curry broth. For Delicious Tambun Biscuits Opposite Jeti Seafood Restaurant in Kuala Selangor is 168, a shop that bakes the best Tau Sar Piah (Tambun biscuits, RM1) in my books! These tau sar piah consist of several layers of thin, flaky pastry that boast a sweet, buttery flavour. The layers envelope a sweet-savoury bean paste filling that's just moist enough for my taste — not too damp or too dry. It is so good that I always come prepared with big Tupperware containers to pack some home!

QQ Cakes Another treat worth mentioning is their authentic handmade QQ cakes. My grandma says it taste like the one she had during her childhood days. Grandma responds: 'ho chiak!'

Tau Sar Piah Opposite of Jeti Seafood Restaurant in Kuala Selangor .This shop bakes the best Tau Sar Piah ; hands down!! These Tau Sar Piah is made of several layers of thin and flaky pastry with a sweet natural buttery flavor to it, enveloping a sweet savory bean paste filling which is a little moist ; not too dry and not too damp. It is so so good that we come prepared with our big Tupperwares. 'The best in Singapore, JB and some say Batam! -PCK' haha!

For Terrific Ham Sui Gok Like its main branch in Taman Midah, Ah Seng's kuih stall here offers the same great traditional fried pastries — my family has been loyal fans since before I was born. If I had to choose a favourite, it has got to be Uncle Ah Seng's Ham Sui Gok (RM1.60). Whenever he catches wind that I'm around the corner, he would surely pre-pack and save some of the dumplings for me! Crispy deep-fried golden morsels with a sweet-savoury filling, these are good enough to rival the ones you get in high-end dim sum restaurants. These beauties are deep-fried just long enough to give that delightful contrast between a crispy shell and a chewy interior. Other highlights from Ah Seng's stall include the Ham Jin Peng (Chinese doughnut), Yau Char Kuai, Nian Gao (Chinese new year cake), and Jin Dui (sesame ball). This stall is a must-try, so come early to avoid disappointment.

咸水角 Ham sui gok aka, 'Crispy deep fried golden beauties with a sweet savory inside'. Ah Seng road side stall sells the best traditional fried pastries. But If I had to choose a favorite, it has got to his Ham Sui Gok. The standard of their fried dumplings 'can fight' with the ones you get in high end dim sum restaurants. What you look for in a good Ham Sui Gok does not lie in the filling but their pastry. For Classic Butter Chicken An institution in SS15, this humble restaurant sees crowds waiting in line for their signature Butter Chicken (from RM10). Burppler XingWei Cheang waxed lyrical about the dish “...silky, luscious coating of butter and condensed milk over crispy yet juicy fried chicken. The fragrant flavours of curry leaves and the sweetness of the rich, dairy elements of the dish meld perfectly.” The only thing you’ll need to eat this with is White Rice (RM1.30). Pretty sure Malaysian butter chicken is a classic you’d only find in the country.⁣ 📌 Gold Chili, SS15. [halal]⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ 📷 In frame: ⁣⁣⁣ Boneless Chicken Set [RM12]⁣ ⁣⁣ ✨: Gold Chili’s rendition of the beloved Malaysian cafeteria staple involves a silky, luscious coating of butter and condensed milk over crispy yet juicy fried chicken. The fragrant flavours of curry leaves and the sweetness of the rich, dairy elements of the dish meld perfectly. A spoon of steamy white rice and a bite of sauce laden meat creates a simply heavenly mouthful. ⁣ ⁣⁣ 💬: As much as it’s good, I wouldn’t travel to the area for the sole purpose of having a meal at Gold Chili. Would definitely consider going there if I were nearby though. ⁣ ⁣⁣ Do you like Malaysian style butter chicken (aka 奶油鸡)?⁣

Buttermilk Chicken Quite a small portion of buttermilk chicken (pictured) for RM14.50. This is their large size. The buttermilk chicken was okay but not spectacular. We also ordered sweet sour Japanese tofu and egg. Fresh fruit juice was good too and only RM3.50 for small & RM5 to go large. (Affordable!!) Overall it was an enjoyable meal and affordable too. Just don't put too high expectation on the buttermilk chicken as it tastes pretty much the same as any other place that sells buttermilk dishes.

Hup Kee Seafood Restaurant According to many foodies, this is the oldest Chinese restaurant in Jalan Ipoh. Their Yau Cham Wan Yu (pic) is a must try here. It's crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside and after about 10~15 sitting in it's sauce, it's still crunchy. Ordered their 油浸鯇魚, 鹹魚花腩煲 and 上湯元菜 for 2 persons and it cost us slightly over RM 100 (including 3 rice and 1 pot of Chinese tea). And they give you free dessert too. We get jelly on our visit. Caution though, their food tend to be on the sweet-ish side.

For Satisfying Seafood Tai Chow The name Hup Kee resonates with Jalan Ipoh as one of the oldest tai chow restaurants serving families and friends in the vicinity. Tastemaker Brian recommends their specialty Yao Cham Wan Yu or Deep Fried Freshwater Carp (seasonal prices). The fish is deep fried to achieve the ultimate crispy skin while still maintaining a moist inside, then doused in a mouthwatering, special-recipe soy sauce. Resembling supersized meatballs more than it does fried pork, the unique Sweet and Sour Pork (from RM15) is also a top dish that makes its way to most tables at the restaurant. It's imperative to have these scrumptious dishes with rice and even more so, people to share them with — bring the family! Avg Price: RM25

For Traditional Desserts at Teatime Kedai Kopi Khoong bustles daily with regulars and most are seen trickling in after 2pm when Soh Soo's dessert stall opens for business. The A-team, a robust uncle and his band of helpers, churns a minimum of five tong suis a day — Wheat Porridge (RM2), Red Bean Soup (RM2), Bubur Cha Cha (RM2) and more of such warming likes. Desserts aside, this oldie also has a knack for comfort food such as their Fried Meehoon (RM2), Yam Cake (RM2) and Anson Chee Cheong Fun (RM2) — Teluk Intan's famous stuffed rice rolls. Weekend afternoons with your partner will be well-spent here over a healthy bowl of bestselling Barley Gingko (RM2). Uncle Soh Soo's Tong Sui I love all kinds of desserts and Tong Sui is no exception! Happy to be introduced to this Chinese dessert nook by Burpple Tastemaker Brian (@leowbrian) during his third #BriansMakanTour Seapark takeover. Pictured here is Uncle Soh Soo's popular Pak Koh Yi Mai (which sells out very quickly!), Green Bean porridge, Bubur Cha Cha and Red Bean soup. Accompanying these bowls are the also popular crispy crullers and yam cake topped with crunchy fried shallots and shrimps. The overall taste may be a little tame for those who usually like their tong sui a little bit on the sweeter end (me) and thicker in texture (also me). Great option for those keeping their health in check though!
