Feeling full and accomplished at Hong Kong Day Cha Kee (@hkday.chakee). Set meal affordably priced at about $12+ you can get a large chicken chop macaroni soup (can also choose Nissin noodles or spaghetti), scrambled/fried egg with thick crispy toast and a drink of your choice. βΊοΈ
Bolo bun with butter ($3) was crowned the most recommended item for the best reason. Fluffy and soft bun with crispy and flaky choux sandwiched with a thick slab of chilled butter! I can have this anytime any day. π₯°
We were pleasantly surprised with the rich and robust iced milk tea ($4). Yes, it is super sweet but in a good way so be prepared for the sugar rush. π
Think melted cheese and black sesame paste oozing out of the tender pork cutlet. Don't think I've seen such katsu at a Japanese restaurant in Singapore before. βΊοΈ
Journey around Kyushu with Sushiro. If you are stuck in Singapore while many swarm to Japan, keep calm and savour this month's feature items such as the fresh air-flown amberjack, juicy mackerel, sweet grouper and fatty tuna from Sushiro. π
Special mention: Thanks Sushiro for the complimentary newly launched in-house orange juice packs! γγγγ¨γπποΈ
Thick cuts of salmon belly brushed with dashi soya sauce topped with a bountiful dollop of glistening salmon caviar (aka ikura). π
This chirashi don is stacked with thick cuts of white fish, salmon, tuna, squid, octopus, a sizable prawn, a jumbo scallop, tamagoyaki and a dollop of flying fish roe. Though the sashimi lack some glistening lustre, they were still relatively fresh and I really appreciate the generous cuts of everything in that bowl.
Get teleported to Hong Kong when you visit Red Star Restaurant. Enjoy the 1980s push cart dim sum dining experience, which is uncommon nowadays.
The food quality of the dim sum items was somewhat inconsistent. There were some hits and misses. However, the roasted duck ($16 for half) is unexpectedly delicious - crispy skin on the tender and moist meat that has almost no gamey taste. It was so good that we had to request a bowl of white rice. π
Ultimately, the fun was trying to catch the push cart auntie's attention or learn to "zap sang" (Cantonese term) - if she doesn't come to you, just go to her and get your dim sum! π€£

Alert β οΈ Support and enjoy the awesome chicken rice while you can. This hidden gem is closing in one week, and they currently have no plans in relocating.
Famous for its poached chicken with the authentic jelly under the chicken skin, Tiong Bahru Hainanese Curry Rice & Chicken Rice also provides free chicken soup for every person at the table. And every bowl of this clear soup comes with some chunks of chicken meat, not forgetting to mention - it is refillable.
Some of the popular side dishes include Salad Youtiao ($3.50) and Homemade Tofu ($3.50). Of course, if you want to stay focused like me, just order quarter poached chicken ($11) and quarter roasted chicken ($11) to indulge the best of both worlds.
You'll regret for walking out Surrey Hills Grocer without trying any of the cakes created by Chef Pang. While the crowd favourite is the classic Strawberry Shortcake, I prefer the nostalgic tasting Peanut Butter and Jam cake. The rich and dense peanut butter laid heavily on the airy sponge cake with sweet strawberry jam oozing out when taking every bite. This is my sweet ending of the meal.
Surrey Hills Grocer delivered what they promised - the freshest and finest of Australia. That thick slab of perfectly grilled cod fish shouts nothing but fresh sweetness. Slammed in between the tangy sauce and buttery brioche buns, the burger is not completed without the cute crispy tatertots on the side.
Served at medium doneness, the ribeye steak was perfectly tender. Paired with one of the steaks' best friend, the chimichurri sauce did its job in elevating the flavours of the savoury meat.
