We accidentally ran into Dim Sum Haus on the way to another dim sum place and found it a luck. We ordered prawn dumplings, Japanese dumplings and crispy carrot cakes. Both the prawn dumplings and carrot cakes tasted wonderful, and the latter was really crispy on the outside.
Japanese dumplings were a let down as the vinegar sauce was too sweet. Moreover, Burrple did not mention that two people could only use one 1-for-1 deal, letting us order less than we would want to.
It’s still a good dimsum place for friends. Burpple should warn users about the limited deal usage.
I like Thai foods but usually feel disappointed either because the normal taste or the high price. Soi 47 have proved good tasty Thai food can still be very affordable. We ordered a clear seafood tom yum ($8.50) and a stir-fried kailan with crispy pork ($10). The tom yum came with a generous number of prawns (i counted 5 big ones) which can put a smile on any prawn lovers’ face. The stir fry dish was well seasoned, and actually more quantity than it looked.
We used Burrple Beyond to check the restaurant and found ourselves enjoying a wonderful meal. We both agree that we will come back even without the deal.
We used Beyond to order two sets here (11.90 each): lemongrass with thyme duck and onsen egg and butter garlic rice with grilled chicken and soft boiled egg. The rice and egg are quite tasty, and it’s interesting to see so many flavoured rice. However, I was a bit disappointed at my duck as the meat was so soft that it felt disintegrated and grainy. The chicken is also quite normal.
I am happy to try with Beyond but will not recommend for its meat taste.
The dish is spot on with a deep broth flavour, well cooked noodle mixture and good seasoning. The queue can be quite long as the cook prepares each batch of several portions separately, but you can observe him in action. It’s quite amazing to see how he manages a wok full of noodles with hands. Portion size varies at 4, 6 or 8 dollars and the amount of seafoods (prawns, squids) are more accordingly.
Being a Vietnamese, I have always been a bit more critical at Vietnamese foods when trying national dishes overseas. At Moc Cottage, surprisingly and pleasantly, the foods don’t disappoint me at all. We order the Hanoi style grilled fatty pork with vermicelli and the Grilled sliced pork (17++) and fried spring rolls with vermicelli (17++). The meat taste is of good quality and well seasoned (a bit stronger if you are new to fish sauce), the herb is fresh and the cook seems to put attention in the dish arrangement which clearly accentuate each component. The portion is actually bigger than it looks so that’s another plus.
The high F&B price can discourage new patrons when compared with other Vietnamese restaurants. However, I definitely recommend friends to try Moc Cottage as an introduction to the cuisine. And don’t forget to make use of Burpple beyond deal.
The signature Crispy duck with rice sided by fresh vegetables, fried tempeh and tofu. The duck leg is deep fried till such beautifully golden colour and crispy texture that you can chew the bones, literally. It would be a crime not to mention fumingly hot, chopped chili pati which rounds the dish.
I would have loved the dish more if there had been free peanut sauce on the veggies and more dipping sauce instead of chili. Gado gado sauce is charged at $1.5, which is a hindrance for me.
Price is $9.90 no SC, GST incld which is quite good.
I was drawn to this eatery by the article on CNA. I have to admit that I am not always a fan of pork or chicken chop because of huge size, oily batter and dry meat. However, I really enjoyed the pork chop meat at Chuan Ji. The highlight of the dish was the chop itself: 2 pieces of thin battered pork that was deep fried to crunchy texture and golden colour. Other components were rice and lettuce, and the french fries were a bit strange for me.
The gentleman owner was very welcoming and courteous. He was talking to customers regardless new or frequent patron.
I hope to come back to try the beef stew.
Pork chop is $6.50.
The pasta is no frills and has quite decent amount of seafood including mussels, squids and prawns. The prawns are fresh and tasty, but the mussels are dry and bland. The whole dish seems to be small although it’s enough for one person.
The price is $18.00++.
The Citrus chipotle pork belly tacos were recommended by the staff and they tasted absolutely amazing: meaty, fatty and fragrant. At first the meat looked as disappointing as pieces of charcoal. The portion was also quite small for a big meat eater like me. Although i enjoyed the tacos, i ended up having a second meal after.
We also ordered the Chicken mole tamales ($8.00++). It is basically chicken mince filled in a flat corn flour which is wrapped in a corn leaf. The corn smell was absolutely amazing, but the taste was a bit bland to my liking. However, the tamales went well with the tasty pork belly.
Recommended to try some of the tacos, but prepared to pay extra if you are a big eater.
We ordered one seafood marinara pasta and the recommended The Raj pizza. The pasta portion looked small but the chef was generous at the amount of seafoods. The Raj pizza was enough for 2 people. The topping included lots of lamb mince, chicken pieces and sliced capsicums. The lamb taste was quite distinct and the dish could have done without it.
Damage was $26.00 for the Raj, $20.00 for the seafood pasta (Burple beyond free).
Recommended to make use of the happy hour when a pint of beer is only $10.00 nett.
We ordered a Cheeky Breakfast Club and a Steak n Egg. The foods were fantastic, especially the thick bacon in the Breakfast Club which is a rare thing to see. The toasts were pan fried which made crispy and definitely full of guilt.
Both dishes are $25.00 plus service charge. The price can be a bit on the high side, but the deal made it worth it.
We ordered waffles with a scoop of rum raisin. The dish looked amazing with a big round ice cream scoop sitting nicely on two waffles. Syrup and chocolate sauce drizzled around just maked the dish even more guilty. The eating part was most satisfying as the warmth of the freshly made waffles just blended with the icy coldness of the ice cream. Recommend to try flavours of ice cream before choosing your favourite.
Damage was $10.30 (premium ice cream) and really worth it
