Extremely fine and good food here. Definitely give brussel sprouts a try (even if youâre not a fan of vege). Prawn Mentaiko Pasta is also amazing.
I wanted so much to love this restaurant because Iâm a HUGE fan of Vietnamese food. However, besides the smiley and welcoming service that I thoroughly appreciated, the food and ambience was a let down.
My girlfriend and I tried Bun Cha (BBQ Pork with Rice Noodles) and Meatball Pho.
Meatball Pho:
The taste and texture of the meatballs tasted odd to me - tough and flat in texture. The soup and noodles were decent, not particularly outstanding.
Bun Cha:
The BBQ Pork had indistinct cuts containing mostly cartilages. It also chews like cardboard. The rice noodles came with a palm-sized portion (Not a great choice if youâre famished)! Having lived in Hanoi before and also hopping around various Vietnamese restaurants in Singapore, this Bun Cha was definitely the least substantial.
Ambience:
It lacked ventilation (came out of the restaurant smelling like BBQ). The interior design and music choice was also questionable - very religious in nature. The air conditioning was also weak and I was sweating at the end of my meal!
Thereâs a long way to go for this restaurant and I hope that it only gets better from here. Perhaps its other dishes are better? Try at your own discretion.
The quality and flavour bursts you get out of Nesuto cakes are insane! My personal favourite was the Matcha cake (Le Omm, I believe is its name). Light, moist - layered with Matcha tea and red bean skin that gives it a light texture. Youâve to try it to understand what I mean. As the cakes are made with whipped cream and mousse, itâs best to have it in the cafe itself. I mean, why wouldnât you? Itâs a nice and cosy place, perfect for meetups and chats. Will definitely be back again đđđ»
This Nasi Lemak Set by Sinpopo boasts a Chinese twist, making this Malay-Chinese fusion one to die for.
We ordered the Nasi Lemak Set for 2 ($28++).
Every single dish served in the Set had something unique about it, besides the Fried Pork Cutlet which was a little tough for our liking.
Hereâs a quick review of each individual dish:
1. Ha Cheong Gai a.k.a Prawn Paste Fried Chicken Wings (2 pieces):
Crispy and tasty, like one youâd get from a famous Tze Char store!
2. Fried Pork Cutlet, chopped:
Tough with fats that had the texture of tendons. Decent, but nothing spectacular.
3. Chilli Fishcake:
This brings me back to my primary school days. The fishcake was springy and soft. Iâm not sure if itâs handmade, but wouldnât doubt that it is!
4. Rojak
A little bit on the wet side, but fragrant none the less. This could do with more âYou Tiaoâ a.k.a. Dough fritters, as there was only about 3 pieces to share among the both of us.
5. Potato Wedges with Curry
Light and crispy, better than the ones you get at western restaurants!
6. Fried Otak
I loved loved loved this dish! Although it didnât immediately occur to me that this potato chips-like dish was Otak, I was pleasantly surprised at this addictive twist of our local delight!
Overall, very satisfied with this meal and will definitely dine here whenever Iâm craving for good Nasi Lemak!
Over the course of about 6 years, Iâve tasted 3 different versions of Creamier waffles.
Version 1 (about 6 years ago):
Heavy, firm and egg-y waffles. This was my favourite!
Version 2 (about 2 years ago):
The recipe was updated to make crispy and lighter waffles. Had a typical texture and taste compared to other cafes.
Version 3 (current):
I find it hard to bring myself to appreciate the waffles here now. They are neither exactly crispy or soft, and quickly absorbs and crumbles at the weight of the melted ice cream.
To make matters worse, the waffles are no longer served on a porcelain plate with metal utensils, but with disposable cutleries and plates instead!
However, I must say that the quality of the ice cream has improved dramatically over the years. They taste... premium and creamy (+ do not melt very quickly like how they used to in the past)!
Please bring back the old waffles though!
Theyâve recently updated the recipe of the waffles to be thicker, while the texture remains light and fluffy.
Lavender & Pandan Ice Cream, Gula Melaka Syrup and Waffles are by far my favourite combination!
Definitely in the top 3 on my list of cafes to enjoy delicious waffles :)
Tried the 8 Flavours Pork Set with Army Stew, Chicken Thigh, and Seafood pancake.
We were very satisfied with the service, as we can focus solely on enjoying the food and did not have to worry about the cooking.
However, the kimchi was a little bit too sour for my liking.
If youâre ever around, I would highly recommend the pork flavours set!
If the sound of squid ink rice turns you off, think again! When I first read the description of é» Rice ($24), I did not expect it to mean the superior WOK HEY taste that weâre all familiar with.
This dish combines my favourite elements of the Western, Japanese and Chinese cuisine. Think perfectly medium-cooked steak, garlicky and wok hey flavoured fried rice, topped with mayonnaise, Nori and Tobiko for that extra sweetness and crunch.
Will definitely be back again for this!
Smoked Salmon Lemon Carbonara ($18) was overly sour and lacked taste â think pasta cream cooked without seasoning except for excessive lemon juice added. The dish would have tasted better with a dash of pepper/ herbs.
N.Z. Striploin Roast Beef Sandwich ($17) had beef that was dry and tough. Topped with a sunny side up egg that was barely runny. There was no saving grace for this even with the sides (salad + baked potatoes), and we had to turn to our next best alternative, chilli sauce.
Spiced Chai Latte ($6) was the highlight of our meal! It was smooth, creamy and had just the right amount of caffeine which blended well with chai. If I were craving for a cup of good coffee, I will not hesitate to go for this. Itâs just that good!
A must try soft-serve ice cream in Singapore!
Ferrero Rocher Chocolate was TO DIE for with its thick consistency and luxurious taste.
Pistachio flavour tasted as how it should â Nutty and Smooth.
I especially like the attention to detail in the plating, where each item was served alongside specially selected toppings (Marshmallows for Ferrero Rocher Chocolate & Lotus Biscuit for Pistachio).
One thing to note is that the ice cream melts fast, so gobble it up quickly!
