๐ Yam, ginkgo nut, coconut whipped cream
~$8~
I actually had this a few months back after seeing the hype about it but was left disappointed and didnโt have the mood to review it. This time, I gave it a second chance and tried it again but sadly, my opinion of it is still the same ๐
The portion was quite bigโ comparable to Cake Spade and really pretty too (heck, their entire cafe aesthetic is to die for). The cake was actually delightfully light and fluffy. The vanilla sponge was lightly scented, just enough to complement the yam paste that had chunks of yam and ginkgo(!) in it. First time Iโve had any yam related food that includes ginkgo ๐คฉ I love ginkgo btw!! I love itโs subtle nutty flavour thatโs accompanied by a touch of sweetness and creaminess. Anyway, I expected more from the yam paste flavour-wise but it was a very nuanced and muted flavour that I had to consciously be aware of it to taste it ๐ The frosting I suspect is made of coconut cream as itโs wonderfully scented with coconut that melds well with the vanilla+yam flavour profile (duh itโs Orh nee lol). However, because of the nature of coconut cream, itโs quite unstable in tropical weather so I understand their decision to add gelatine to stabilise the frosting BUT to me it was kinda too jelly-ish/slimy. Yikes, that texture is a no-go for me rip.
Lastly, their coffee imo was over roasted and left an unpleasant sour/bitter aftertaste in conjunction with the oat milk. Maybe it wouldโve been better to order it with regular milk but then again, good coffee should be able to work with both dairy and non-dairy milk ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Would go back again cuz Iโm a sucker for aesthetic chill spots + I wanna try out their yuzu meringue (which my friend really liked) and their vanilla cheddar as well hehe

๐: Limbo/Basa Fish, mala mix, mungbean sprouts, potato slices, cabbage, beancurd skin
~$18.80~
by: @whatthefishsg
Decided to try @whatthefishsg after my partner said it was nubbad for the price ($18.80) since we didnโt know what to eat at J8 for dinner ๐ ๐ Thankfully the foodcourt wasnโt that packed albeit it being dinner time so we found an empty table relatively fast but for the dish to arrive, not relatively so (~30min). We were okay with it because the staff already preempt us that the wait would take about 20min.
We got the Whole Fish combo which came with 2 pearl rice and 4 side dishes and I added luncheon meat cuz why not (which costed $0.70 extra). After an excruciatingly long 30min, what greeted my nose was the fragrance of Szechuan pepper!! The (oily) broth was decently spicy (mala ๅคง่พฃ) but it was the gradual kind of spice; not the straight up stab-your-soul kinda spice so ๐๐. Also, it was mouthwateringly goodโ unlike those usual โmalaโ flavour you get at your run-off-the-mill mala stalls as the broth had a full bodied aroma of different spices such as black cardamom, cumin, star anise etc ๐คค However, the side dishes were kinda pathetic ๐ค๐ค They were less than a handful each and only had 4 quarter slices of luncheon meat lol BUT the fish was tender yet had a substantial bite to it!! Itโs okay though, cuz we were quite satiated after the meal.
All in all, if you are in the area, I think you can give @whatthefishsg a try! Itโs very aromatic and itโs a less expensive option to Chong Qing Grilled Fish / Tanyu but of course, you get what you pay for.

๐ฏ: Insane Queue
Puff n Peaks? Donut Shack? Plain Vanilla? Move over, itโs time for the new reigning Supreme!
Meet Sourbombe (if you hadnโt already known them when they were just an online store) โ one of (if not) THE best bombolones youโd ever taste in Singapore. Fluffy, THICC and stuffed full with unique (and tantalizing) filling, these sinful creations would leave you wanting more. Take note, however, the queue situation is crazy! Thereโs already a long line forming prior to the opening time (9.30am) and sells out BY 11am so head over early to bag them ๐๐.
They have 6 permanent and 3 seasonal flavoursโ
Cinnabombe (cinnamon sugar)
Blueberry, Lemon & Thyme
Lavender Lime Mascarpone (my fav)
Basque Burnt Cheesecake
Hojicha Caramel Crunch
Passionfruit & Caramelised Banana
-
Basil Rhubarb
Burnt Honey, Sage & Walnut
Black Sesame & Peanut
Amazing pastries, friendly staff and a myriad of tantalising flavours and bakes to choose from. However, do come before 11am (WEEKDAY) so as to be able to peruse leisurely without needing to fear not being able to get what you want. Weekends, however, be ready to queue even at 8.30am ๐
Must get:
Cruffins ($5)โ Any. See it. Grab it. Especially the salted caramel and lemon curd iterations. Decadent, creamy and a balanced flavour profile.
Croissant ($3.50; plain)โ Donโt know what to get still? One can never go wrong with this simple, amazingly flakey and buttery goodness.
BKA [Brera Kouign Amann] ($6)โ Whatโs better than a croissant? One thatโs encased in a layer of caramelised sugar that provides flavour profiles of toffee and burnt-bittersweet. Crunchy, sinful, decadent. Amazing. Inspired by the amazing Dominique Ansel.

๐ honey miso chicken thigh, crispy fish skin, short-grain rice, onsen eggโ โ โ
~$16.90~โ โ โ โ โ โ
โ โ โ
Bought this 1-for-1 voucher during Chopeโs birthday so is actually $8.45 per pax!! The store itself is really small, with only 6 seats so when I arrived (at lunch hour, no less ๐คญ) there was already a queue and I could not get any seats but I was able to seat at the establishment located beside it selling Korean stews (which actl looks ๐คค)โ โ โ
Anyway, I had to wait ~15-20min for the food and when it first came, the plating made the donburi look so appetising but I was doubtful of the portion. However my concerns were for naught. I couldnโt even finish the entire thing OMG it was sneakily so filling!! โ โ
The donburi was intriguingโ juicy and succulent chicken thighs smothered in honey miso sauce accompanied with a side of lightly spiced crispy fish skin (!) and topped with a perfect onsen egg on a generous serving of fluffy short-grain rice with some seaweed furikake. The chicken was amazingโ every bite of the succulent thigh exploded with sweet and umami (thanks to the miso) notes which paired really well with the grassy, earthy seaweed rice. However, the crispy fish skinโ even though amazing on its ownโ completely overwhelmed the entire dish and I could only taste the Cajun seasoning. If only it was less dominant, it wouldโve been perfect. Itโs crunchy and umami, providing a spectacular textural contrast to the creamy rice (cuz I mixed the onsen egg in hehe). โ โ โ
Honestly, even though it was not bad, I canโt justify paying $16.90 for this especially when my tastebuds got overwhelmed by the Cajun fish skin (the dealbreaker). However, if there was another BOGO (buy one get one) promotion, I would definitely visit again.โ โ โ
โ
*EDIT: okay I found out the dish is actually $9.90 instead which I feel is not bad esp arnd the CBD area!!โ

Their tiramisu packaging makes it look big itโs actl quite small!! Ordered their earl grey tiramisu. Quite average tasting but thereโs a strong impression of earl grey tea. The bergamot was quite prominent and they even had some lemon zest in their mascarpone cream filling which was a nice addition. Was it worth $9.80? Definitely not.

Really aesthetic place that reminds me of Koreaโs cafes. Drink (Mango Momo) came in a can that is sealed on the spot (can opt for regular cup also)! The drink ($6.80) was averageโ coconut milk, grapefruit pulp, mango cubes and sago. Nothing more, nothing less. 100% sugar was okay, surprisingly not as sweet as I expected it was gonna be. Tasted like Koiโs 50% sweetness!

Amazing assortment of cupcakes! Even their doughnuts and tarts look so mouthwatering. Their chestnut cream (made specially for HerWorld) was simply stellar! Topped with a decadent roasted chestnut buttercream, the flavour of this vanilla cupcake with a vanilla buttercream core got elevated to the next level. Nutty and a little smoky, sweet and buttery rich on the palate, it left me wanting for more!!

~$2.90-$5.50~
TL;DRโ Love the obanyaki with warabimochi inside ๐คค๐ However, if you want something richer/more matcha heavy, get the matcha custard! You know what, just get both HAHAHA!! Skip the chocolate. Get Mr Bean pancakes instead if you donโt want matcha related ones. The warabimochi in the cup was a little โjelatโ for me after a few pieces ๐ถ

I LOVE this. Will get this every time I pass by @108matchasanrosg !! The anko paste inside is daintily sweet and pairs well with the matcha warabimochi that was delightfully bouncy and chewy. One qualm would be that I wished the edges were crispier to provide a more distinct textural contrast.

My greedy ass will get this along with the red bean+warabimochi cuz this was a delight to have as well!! The custard hit the sweet spot (double entendre intended heheh) and had the right consistency. Not too goopy or runny!! Had a really nice mouthfeel to it as well, with creamy matcha goodness spreading all across my palate ๐ฉ๐คค

Bad idea. Skip this lol. Could taste that they used couverture chocolate (I think itโs 55% dark) but the texture of the chocolate custard was sooo weird and was strangely goopy unlike the matcha one ๐๐ Just get Mr Beanโs pancakes if you planning to get flavours other than matcha from this store!! Mr Bean makes ๐๐๐ pancakes. Bouncy, supple, soft, chewy and had a nice ratio of filling to batter!!

Uhhhh, have mixed feelings about this one... The outside powder dusting is not really nice as I feel like the kinako (soybean flour) and matcha powder flavour profiles donโt really complement each other, resulting in a weird taste. Tastes like the dried brown withered leaves you pick up as a child to smell LOL OK I WAS A CURIOUS CHILD I CAN FEEL THE JUDGEMENT ๐ญ๐ However, the texture of the warabimochi mochi itself is ๐๐. Silky, bouncy and chewy all at the same time. Sufficiently sweet as well. But I had trouble having all 8 by myself. I feel like itโs way better on a parfait instead. So most probs I wonโt purchase it again ๐

๐Cloud-like peanut cream, red bean paste, mochi, peanut powder
~$2~
TL;DRโ IF YOU LOVE INJEOLMI BINGSU, GET THIS!! Soft bread filled generously with light and airy peanut cream, red bean paste and mochi. Decently sweet. A good pick me up but be warned you might not be able to stop after having just 1 ๐๐๐
The bun is filled with this cloud-like cream (diplomat cream?) thatโs mildly sweet with notes of vanilla which is enveloped in the light embrace of peanut-y aroma. The cream is so light and airy itโs as if Iโm consuming a wet peanut cloud. Plus, thereโs a light layer red bean paste (with skin) AND mochi.
Also, the bread is so soft and fluffy (most probs tangzhong based bread so if youโre sensitive to gluten, should try to eat in moderation hehe)!! Hello, whatโs there not to love?! The skin in the red bean paste makes it come off as not something that is bulk bought but rather, something handmade which I like. Also, idk how the mochi is soooo stretchy but I dig it.
Overall, they really hit home-run with this bread. All of the elements of โinjeolmi red beanโ are in harmony with each otherโnothing overpowering each other and is satisfactorily sweet (IMO). Also, the textural contrast in this bread is quite surprising especially when it only costs $2. Will definitely buy again (and many times at that LOL!!)
