Cafes

Cafes that are littered around Singapore. Are they worth the hype (and calories)? Or are they just like any other cafes? Find out more inside ;)

πŸ“ Yam, ginkgo nut, coconut whipped cream
~$8~

I actually had this a few months back after seeing the hype about it but was left disappointed and didn’t have the mood to review it. This time, I gave it a second chance and tried it again but sadly, my opinion of it is still the same 😞
The portion was quite bigβ€” comparable to Cake Spade and really pretty too (heck, their entire cafe aesthetic is to die for). The cake was actually delightfully light and fluffy. The vanilla sponge was lightly scented, just enough to complement the yam paste that had chunks of yam and ginkgo(!) in it. First time I’ve had any yam related food that includes ginkgo 🀩 I love ginkgo btw!! I love it’s subtle nutty flavour that’s accompanied by a touch of sweetness and creaminess. Anyway, I expected more from the yam paste flavour-wise but it was a very nuanced and muted flavour that I had to consciously be aware of it to taste it πŸ˜• The frosting I suspect is made of coconut cream as it’s wonderfully scented with coconut that melds well with the vanilla+yam flavour profile (duh it’s Orh nee lol). However, because of the nature of coconut cream, it’s quite unstable in tropical weather so I understand their decision to add gelatine to stabilise the frosting BUT to me it was kinda too jelly-ish/slimy. Yikes, that texture is a no-go for me rip.
Lastly, their coffee imo was over roasted and left an unpleasant sour/bitter aftertaste in conjunction with the oat milk. Maybe it would’ve been better to order it with regular milk but then again, good coffee should be able to work with both dairy and non-dairy milk πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ
Would go back again cuz I’m a sucker for aesthetic chill spots + I wanna try out their yuzu meringue (which my friend really liked) and their vanilla cheddar as well hehe

πŸ“Buttermilk waffle, Korean banana milk, caramelised biscuit, sea salt, caramel
~$12.50~

TL;DRβ€” Overhyped & overpriced waffles and the ice creams weren’t amazing either. Other places have better waffles and same (if not bigger!) scoop of ice cream.

I LOVE icecream waffle sososo much so when I saw many of my friends trying this, I can’t help but to pay them a visit!! But hor, this visit was disappointing to say the least πŸ˜• the waffles were too crunchy with no bite to it. I prefer waffles that have a crunchy exterior and chewy interior. However, @twentygrammes ones are a miss. They had a crunch but when we cut into it, the knife just went right through and straight for the plate, making a large PIANG sound which was sooo embarrassing πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ”«πŸ”«. Also, the waffles didn’t taste like much...it just tastes like batter LOL. Don’t have the nice vanilla taste like other waffles and also had a slight bitter aftertaste. Ok la, the outside tastes a bit caramel-y cuz of the browning of the sugars in the batter but that’s about it.

The Tokyo banana ice cream was my fav and had caramel biscuits in between them 😍😍 It was a nice surprise but that’s about it as it just taste like the yellow banana milk that can get from Koryo Mart or smth hehe. The salted caramel one we had some expectations but then again, it fell flat... it just tastes like (cheap?) vanilla gelato with salt and caramel (note: not salted caramel but salt AND caramel). The flavours didn’t even meld together. Very very disparate & disappointing. Also tasted like the caramel was burnt as it’s bitter and had that chaotah taste πŸ˜•πŸ˜•

Overall, overpriced waffles, won’t visit again. If only I can get back my calories... 😀😀
