Is red velvet really a flavour? Regardless, you gotta admit cream cheese and chocolate is a killer combo.
-
@konditorisg does pretty solid croissants โ buttery with flake and fluff. With added cream cheese sweet-richness and accents of chocolate, this ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐๐ฒ๐น๐๐ฒ๐ ๐ฐ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ถ๐๐๐ฎ๐ป๐ is oh-so-sinful but totally worth the calories.
-
The allure of this scarlet hued pastry will test the will of even the most tenacious dieter. In the end they will helplessly devour it. Croissant is inevitable. ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ

๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ธ ๐๐ฒ๐ถ ๐ ๐ฎ (or โ่จๅ
ถ้ฉฌ") is a snack that I'd enjoyed in my childhood. Sadly, Pan Ji is now Singapore's last surviving stall making it fresh. Despite being located amongst other hawker stalls plastered with Michelin accolades, it's still my favourite at Chinatown Complex.
-
It might be just chunky batter melded together with sugar syrup, but this snack was magically loaded with a wealth of addictively fragrant egginess and malty caramelisation.
-
Once you've savoured that lightly airy crunch that's nicely punctuated with a sticky chewiness from the sugar, you'd find yourself popping in piece after piece. The supermarket variant really doesn't compare.
-
Their operating hours have been shortening year after year. If you haven't, it's worth a trip down before handmade Sak Kei Ma is rendered extinct by the proverbial asteroid that is modernisation.

There's the classic kaya toast we love, and there's this sourdough ๐ธ๐ฎ๐๐ฎ ๐๐ผ๐ฎ๐๐ ($7) beaut from @microbakerykitchen. It was a home run with that thick, fluffy and lightly chewy sourdough toast blanketed by that luscious layer of kaya. ๐๐ฅฅ
-
The intoxicating fragrance of pandan and coconut was the star but the supporting cast of sourdough twang, rich butter and sea salt bestowed some show-stopping nuances. That said, there was one part of my toast which was quite unevenly salted. But other than that, this was a tasteful modern cafe take on kaya toast.

A day turned into a week, a week into a month. The day finally came โ the @burntends.bakery_sg donuts finally in my hands. Prolonged pining can turn one crazy, so be warned of a grueling month-long wait.
-
Each bite of the ๐บ๐ถ๐
๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐๐๐๐ณ๐ณ๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐ฑ๐ผ๐ป๐๐๐ ($24/half doz) was softer than a cloud and underscored by a delicate chew. Amongst the three fillings, the passionfruit curd popped out with its spiritedly citric persuasion which cut right through the sweetness. Vanilla was light with just the right amount of sweetness. Nutella was... Well, nutella .
-
Truly blissful little treats though not quite the culinary revelation, which they admittedly donโt need to be. If you manage your expectations despite the long wait, these are well worth the money.

Was cautiously optimistic of the hype surrounding @burntends.bakery_sg's ๐บ๐ถ๐น๐ผ ๐ฑ๐ถ๐ป๐ผ๐๐ฎ๐๐ฟ ๐ฑ๐ผ๐ป๐๐๐ ($24/half doz) because of milo's inherent cloyingness. I have to admit that these exceeded milo expectations.
-
Lusciously thick and luxuriously loaded with malty flavours, the milo cream was as decadent as decadence comes. If you're also scared they'd taste like diabeetus, donut worry. It's still mildly cloying but not unreasonably so.
-
I'd argue original mixed variants were still better and truly the bomb...oloni. But these are proof that local flavours can be more than just half-baked gimmicks at the hands of talented chefs. Definitely need to try the new pandan flavour they are coming out with.

There's a simple mantra for finding good hawker food. Follow the queue. It's like finding a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. The best example is the king of pasar malam queues.
-
With pasar malams staying closed, they've opted to open an outlet in the Woodlands industrial area. Plus point โ you don't have to stand in line here with their buzzer queue system.
-
Overflowing with fillings, these hearty ๐๐ฒ๐ผ๐ฐ๐ต๐ฒ๐ ๐บ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ ๐ฝ๐๐ณ๐ณ๐ ($3.50) were such decadent snacks. Batter was slightly starchier compared to the Berseh stall but the crust was crispier and crackled thunderously. The fillings held an umami burst of flavour but with some celery sharpness cut through the heaviness. Peanuts then topped it off with some crunch and their earthy funk.
-
Whilst slightly greasy, it's not hard to find yourself finishing one in a snap. It's a bit ulu but if you have an air fryer just dabao more, because it's just as good the next day with some air frying.

The bake photos of fellow burppler @littlebignoms on Instagram is always mouthwatering. Was intrigued enough to pop by @lemuelchocolate for her
-
Slightly more cake-like in texture, it had a nice moist density to it whilst packed to the brim with chocolate intensity. Quite honestly, I think TBB isn't worth its hassle and this was a pretty good alternative, with a quirky flavour spin. Granted I've only had TBB and my own for reference.
-
Cinnamon crumble added a nice fragrant perfume and some textural layering with its cronch. That glistening milk chocolate truffle then gave some levity to this rich bake with a spirited aramel-tinged sweetness. Of course it can get a bit cloying as with most blackout brownies but these are for unrestrained indulgence. Waistline be damned.

@linorestaurant does a pretty damn solid ๐ฏ๐๐ฟ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐๐ฎ ๐ฝ๐ถ๐๐๐ฎ ($26). Coupled with the @burpple beyond 1-for-1 deal, this might be one of my fav pizzas just for its value.
-
All eyes were drawn to the pristine sphere of gooey cheese which, when dissected, oozed rather sensually. Smeared onto the tomato sauce, its clean and lightly rich cheese notes melded seamlessly into the piquancy. Quite a grate burrata and the flavour pairing was so gouda. A garlicky kick from the pesto then rounded it off nicely.
-
The cheesy creaminess also acted as the perfect foil to the thicker and more viscous tomato base. This combination paired quite elegantly with the dough, which was crispy at one extremity and delicate at the other.

Few burger bars leave my heart swelling with more than just cholesterol but @25degreesinsingapore is somewhere I always leave feeling full โ both heart and stomach.
-
Maybe not the best burger in SG, but my favourite at least. They just make it different here. Pillowy buns thiccer than any Kardashian's, combined with crunchy bacon, luscious caramelised onions and a hefty juice-loaded patty. Damn.
-
And out of left field, an ensemble of sharp punchy gorgonzola and piquant thousand island gives the ๐ก๐๐บ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐ข๐ป๐ฒ ($14) an exciting umami-laden profile.
-
Of course, they aren't perfect. Having been more than 10 times โ surely a personal record โ they have inconsistencies. Hard for a feisty dynamite like this to be always flawless, but those times they assembled the perfect numero uno are still etched in memory.

Negroni is truly a timeless classic. Bold. Sexy. Almost instills a sense of braggadocio. Where do you go for your Negroni fixes?
-
I quite enjoyed the ๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฟ ๐ป๐ฒ๐ด๐ฟ๐ผ๐ป๐ถ ($14) on the happy hour menu at the No. 25 Best Bar in Asia. Expectedly strong but also crisply coloured with a pear sweetness. It smoothly glid down, leaving behind a trace of sensually spiced bitterness.

Itโs never really a Mexican feast without some tortilla chips. You must get some of their gratuitously crispy tortilla chips to go around the table. Be warned: theyย are addictive.
Guacamole is normally the popular choice but I found theirย pico de galloย ($6) equally appetising. Piquant and fresh, it was a perfect pairing for some margaritas.

If fish isnโt your thing, the beef brisket in theย tacos de suaderoย ($15/2, $20/3) might be up your alley. Flavourful and dripping with juices, with a touch of earthy herbs to balance. Sadly, whilst the brisket was enjoyable, the tortillas were too delicate to hold the juices in, resulting in a less enjoyable eating experience.
