If there is anything about 2024, it does seem that this is the year where 50年 Taste of Tradition has been massively expanding their operations around the island. The opening of its Capitol Singapore outlet was one that caught many by surprise since the establishment had always been known as a kiosk serving up various tarts, cakes and pastries, as well as breads with several options for spreads — the Capitol Singapore outlet being their very first dine-in concept that also serves up beverages. Since then, there are more of such locations which had sprouted up all across the island; this includes an outlet at Parkway Parade, while the latest had just opened their doors in Century Square before the end of 2024. This is probably 50年 Taste of Tradition’s biggest dine-in location till date; the store is located around the perimeters of Century Square, and is only accessible from outside the mall. The interior of the store is decked in a manner that is familiar to the other 50年 Taste of Tradition locations with a dine-in element; think simple and functional furnishing matched against an interior that consists of white, wooden and yellow accents with a terrazzo floor that helps to add a bit of visual contrast. The food items offered at 50年 Taste of Tradition’s Century Square location is fairly similar to that of what one can find at their other dine-in locations; expect a line-up of cakes, tarts, bakes, traditional breads and sandwiches, while the range of beverages would include both espresso-based coffee and traditional coffee, tea and milk tea.
To be honest, we were quite surprised to have found that 50年 Taste of Tradition had recently just added the Pon De Ring line-up to its offerings with the opening of the Century Square location — that being said, we aren’t too sure if this is a Century Square-exclusive item at the current stage especially considering how the UFO Burger was an item that was exclusive to the outlet at Parkway Parade for quite a while. 50年 Taste of Tradition serves up a variety of four (4) flavours for their Pon De Ring — the Mango, Chocolate, Matcha and Strawberry. We found ourselves opting for the Mango and Matcha variants of the Pon De Ring to pair with our order of the Osmanthus Oolong Pure Tea (Hot). Between the two (2) flavours of the Pon De Ring that we have gone for, we thought the better flavour would have been the Mango Pon De Ring — despite both using a flavoured white chocolate ganache layer to give the donut flavour, the Mango one carried a stronger note of its intended flavour. We also did find the Mango version to be rather unique since such execution of mango-flavoured bakes aren’t exactly commonly found elsewhere. The Pon De Ring does seem to be very much inspired by what Mr Donut has to offer; whilst Mr Donut’s version comes with a bit more chew with a clear mochi element in the middle of each “bead”, the Pon De Ring at 50年 Taste of Tradition is a little easier to finish with the mochi element being less dense. It still however carried a light chewiness that one would expect from such an item.
