Tossed in a lot of sauce to distract one from the “stench”. Pretty yummy in fact!
Just off the main thoroughfare of Wangfujing is the popular Wangfujing Snack Street (also known as Wangfujing Food Alley). Along here, you'll come across this kind of stall every few metres. Offering a repertoire of assorted deepfried snacks that include creepy crawlies, they are a magnet for the hungry hordes and the curious gawkers. I fall into both categories 😜
When the temperature drops, there's nothing like a steaming hot bowl of beef tripe. This classic Beijing street food can be found quite easily within the narrow passageways of the popular Wangfujing Food Alley.
Upon receiving an order, the stall hand would heap fresh herbs into a bowl, followed by a pile of the chewy, springy strips of tripe. After blanching them together, he ladles on some sesame paste, soya sauce, tonnes of puréed raw garlic, chilli oil and a dash of vinegar.
Next step is to find a corner to stand in, away from the jostling crowds, where you can wolf everything down safely.
Not my kind 😉
