Waku Waku (日式烈日松饼)

Because I’m happy to feel all the Japanese cafe vibes simply by crossing the borders! Actually came here for their Shiba Inu Dango & Totoro Macaron version but found out that those were seasonal specials hence unavailable. So we got the marshmallow crunch topping to ‘garnish’ instead, coupled with honey maple syrup for a golden touch ☺️ Crispy waffles are so yesterday, I’m officially in the chewy waffles’ fan club right now. Yums!

I went there specially for their Shiba Inu dango, but in its place is Waku Waku's new seasonal creations for cherry blossoms.

Looking pretty in pink is sakura ice cream on top of mochi waffles that was filled with chewy Japanese mochi inside crispy waffles. I chose dark chocolate as the accompanying sauce.

After all this was the main reason I drag my friends out to Mount Austin, Johor Bahru.

We ended having their Double Waffles with Double Scoop of Gelato (MYR 18.90 + MYR 8 for 2nd scoop of gelato). Interestingly they use Mochi waffle and you get to choose between original (coated with peanut powder) or sesame. Waffles are more chewy in texture but still retain a bit of crunch on the outside.

Selection of gelato includes Black Sesame, Royal Chocolate, Matcha and Earl Grey. The last has a light tea fragrance and pleasant after taste. While no Totoro 😥 at least we had a great time there.
