To complement my meal, I ordered a glass of Umeshu (¥900), a plum liqueur. The drink was accompanied by savoury small bites that paired well with the sweet beverage.
I couldn't resist trying their signature Sasamushi (¥1430)🤤 as well. This delightful dish consisted of steamed glutinous rice wrapped with eel inside bamboo grass, infusing it with a delightful aroma. Imagine the taste of Unagi encased in a "Bak Zhang" (rice dumpling) — that's precisely what it resembled. The eel in this dish had a melty and tender texture that was simply oishii.
Craving for some Unagi during my trip, so here I am at a humble Unagi restaurant.
Special Deluxe Broiled Eel on Rice (¥3960)😋
The eel was prepared in the Kansai style, featuring a crisp outer layer and a tender, chewy interior. It had a smoky and charry flavour that was truly savoury. The eel sauce glaze added a delightful touch of sweetness. While enjoying the dish, I could occasionally feel the tiny bones, adding a unique texture to each bite. The set also came with a fish stock clear soup with eel liver, seasoned vegetables, and pickles, enhancing the overall experience.
