Guide Features of Good Food at Montana Singapore

Having moved up a level from their first floor digs, Montana (previously Montana Brew Bar) now boasts a bigger shop space and a three-in-one concept that includes pastas, burgers and doughnuts, on top of a greater selection of their popular waffles. Go straight for the waffles, especially the creative savoury ones like their well-loved Jalapeño Mac & Cheese Waffle ($12), Bulgogi Beef Waffle ($16) and the much raved about Assam Crab Waffle ($18). Inspired by Kedah laksa, the latter comes topped with fresh crab meat, pineapple cucumber salsa and the pièce de résistance, assam gula Melaka mayo. The new and improved Red Velvet Waffle 2.0 ($14.50), now served with strawberry shortcake ice cream and white chocolate rose syrup, makes an excellent dessert, especially when paired with a glass of the Coconut Cold Brew (from $6.80). The coconut water cuts through the coffee's acidity while adding a hint of natural sweetness.

If there's any reason to try the burgers at South Bronx, it should be for their unbelievably light potato buns. Taking over the now defunct The Connoisseur Coffee (TCC) at POMO, this is the second establishment by the people behind Montana Brew Bar. With Fabulous Dough (doughnuts) and Montana (waffles and pasta) on the second floor, and South Bronx Burger on the first, POMO seems like the new place to be. This small, light-filled space brims with energy from the colourful graffiti on the wall and '90s hip-hop blasting through the speakers, a nod to the South Bronx in New York City. Come by with a friend or two, and start by sharing the Beer Battered BBQ Chicken Wings ($7). Show some love to the Mac Daddy ($12), a premium US and Australian beef blend patty topped with a spicy, sinful Jalapeño mac and cheese. Alternatively, indulge in The Umami ($11), where miso mushroom, furikkake mayo and bonito flakes form a party in a your mouth. Do yourself a favour and top up $4 to enjoy a side of triple fries — a genius mix of normal fries, cross cut fries and twister fries (!) along with a soft drink. Don't leave without sharing the Red Velvet ($6.90) ice cream burger that features Ferrero Rocher ice cream and coconut Nutella sauce in a red velvet bun, or the Black Sesame ($6.50) for a less cloying option — fluffy black sesame buns sandwiching green tea ice cream and azuki red beans. Wash it all down with a craft beer, currently 1-for-1 ($12 for two) from 6pm till closing!

Situated within POMO in the Dhoby Ghaut area, Montana Brew Bar is a cosy cafe that serves a variety of burgers, waffles, sandwiches, and pastries. They boast a rather extensive waffle selection that comprises both savoury and sweet. No visit is complete without trying their signature Truffle Jalapeño Mac & Cheese 2.0 Waffle ($11.50) -- it's really quite shiok. For dessert, Montana offers a choice of either crispy or fluffy soufflé waffle bases for all sweet waffles. Whichever your choice may be, indulge in their Matcha Strawberry Fields ($9.50) with mango passionfruit spheres and white chocolate sauce. On the coffee front, Montana offers artisanal coffee blends -- from single origin roasts to their own special house blend.
