Kozen Sushi Bar impresses with its elegant décor, warm lighting, and tranquil ambience, making it perfect for intimate dinners or special occasions.
The meal began with the Tokujo Nigiri Platter, featuring aged sashimi that melted in the mouth. The accompanying Torotaku Maki added a delightful crunch, perfectly complementing the delicate fish.
Two distinct chawanmushi followed. The Scallops + Snow Crab Chawanmushi stood out with its silky, custard-like base and natural seafood sweetness—a refined and luxurious dish.
The rice bowls were equally impressive. The Kozen Don was a vibrant medley of flavors and textures, while the Lobster Toro Don delivered rich, buttery toro paired with sweet, tender lobster, creating a truly indulgent experience.
The yakitori selection was a delightful showcase of grilled perfection. Highlights included the earthy, smoky Shiitake Mushroom, the savory Asparagus with Bacon, the juicy Tori Momo, and the sweet-savory Buta Tomato Maki. The tender, lightly seasoned Mune rounded out the set beautifully.
We had dinner tonight at @hanamaruken_sg Hanamaruken Ramen, a famous ramen shop from Osaka. It's one of our go-to ramen shops, especially for the Signature Happiness (Mega)! It has so much meat in it.
The star of the show, of course, was the Signature Happiness (Mega). This behemoth of a dish is piled high with tender, succulent pork ribs, making it a carnivore's dream come true. The rich, flavorful broth complements the meat perfectly, creating a truly satisfying meal.
While the Signature Happiness (Mega) was the highlight of the meal, We also tried a few other dishes. While most were nothing special, the Chahan Japanese Fried Rice was surprisingly delicious. It was packed with flavor and had the perfect texture.
Today, we visited @majicurrysg Maji Curry at Square 2, a place that has earned accolades for its Japanese curry rice with cheese sauce. With its reputation preceding it, we went in with high hopes, especially for the promised kick of its highest spice level.
Starting with the curry itself, we found it surprisingly mild, even at the highest heat level—it didn’t quite deliver the fiery punch we’d anticipated. For spice lovers, this might feel underwhelming. Moving on to the cheese sauce, we were hoping for a more pronounced, creamy richness to balance the curry. While the cheese added some creaminess, the taste felt muted when mixed with the curry, almost getting lost in the dish.
The hamburg patty was decent, well-cooked but not especially memorable. It’s definitely a good option if you’re new to Japanese curry or want a safe, comfort food experience, but it didn’t stand out as exceptional. Overall, while Maji Curry serves up a hearty plate, we were left wishing for a bit more depth and flavor intensity.
If you’re looking for a mild curry fix with a touch of cheese, Maji Curry could be worth a visit, but for bolder flavors, there might be better options in town.
Ajiya Okonomiyaki is a delightful little gem for Japanese food lovers, especially those with a soft spot for okonomiyaki. Nestled in a cozy yet comfortable space with traditional Japanese decor, the restaurant immediately transports you to Japan, making it a great spot to escape into a little slice of Japan right here in Singapore.
Their okonomiyaki, which you can make yourself or have the attentive staff prepare, stands out as one of the best we’ve tried in the Singapore. The ingredients are fresh, and each bite delivers the right balance of savory flavors with a hint of sweetness, all beautifully combined by the creamy Japanese mayo and tangy okonomiyaki sauce.
For an extra treat, we also tried the Gyutan, or grilled beef tongue, which the staff expertly grilled tableside. It was cooked to perfection, achieving that tender, smoky taste that’s hard to beat. However, the Yakisoba fell a bit short; while decent, it didn’t quite reach the same high standard as the other dishes.
Stepping into Mensho Tokyo, we knew we were in for a memorable ramen experience, but their Signature Toripaitan Ramen took it to another level. The house-made wavy wheat noodles, crafted with such finesse, swim in a creamy chicken broth that has all the silkiness you could hope for. What elevates this dish even further is the trio of proteins it brings: A5 Wagyu, smoked pork, duck, and chicken chashu. Each protein has a distinct texture and depth of flavor, blending seamlessly with the rich broth. Truffle sauce, ajitama eggs, and king oyster mushrooms add a gourmet touch, making every bite decadent and memorable.
Their Duck Matcha Ramen was another standout, showcasing a unique take on flavor. Instead of an overpowering matcha taste, the broth leaned into a creamy consistency that carried subtle hints of green tea, creating a well-balanced and surprising flavor profile. It’s an interesting choice for anyone looking for ramen with a twist.
A fun side addition was the Enoki Chips—crispy, fried enoki mushrooms that come with a sprinkle of chili powder. These chips add a delightful crunch and just the right amount of heat when paired with the ramen.
What’s more, Mensho Tokyo offers a peek into its noodle-making process. Just by the entrance, the noodle room grinds whole wheat grains into fresh flour to make noodles daily, giving diners an up-close look at the care that goes into their meal. It’s a small but captivating detail that highlights the artisanal quality of the ramen here.
