Chee cheong fun is one of my favourite dishes! The chee cheong fun served here are thin and soft, similar to the HK style (instead of the thick ones in SG). They had several options such as curry, red/black sweet sauce, āyam cakeā which is their specialty, and you can also choose deep-fried yong tau foo sides to go along with it. The portions were very substantial.
We opted for:
- Scallion oil: this was your scallion oil noodle but in cheong fun style. Very light and delicious!
- Black sweet sauce: of course you have to compare the traditional! This was a bit too sweet for my liking, but the sauce was more thin compared to the thick sauce you get in SG
Spent total RM12 for these two + 2 cups of kopi-C kosong
For the veggies out there, there is also a vegetarian restaurant that serves dim sum next door!
A good meat-free option, this was dry noodles with eggplant and tofu. Taste was good but may get a bit jelak from the sweetness.
This dish shouldnāt make sense but it does! Chanced upon this place which is a step down from Din Tai Fung quality but what an interesting and delicious dish. The egg had a strong wok hey flavour too!
Costed ~RM12
Canāt remember the name of this dish but the good thing about this place is that they have a whole vegetarian page! Nothing to rave about if youāre there for the local food but at least the meat-free friends have options. This tasted like Lu Rou (made with mock meat and tofu). If anyone knows what type of cooking method this interesting egg is pls let me know!!
Nasi lemak with Chicken Meat ~RM18
This was their specialty. Decent nasi lemak but of course cannot compare to road side stalls in terms of taste and price. Chose the chicken meat (breast meat) instead of the whole thigh which was slightly cheaper.
Dry Mee Siam with Chicken Meat ~RM17
Huge portion that lasted over 2 meals. Mee siam was spicy and went well with the sambal. Chose the chicken meat (breast meat) instead of the whole thigh which was slightly cheaper. A bit pricier than street food but food was decent.
Dropped by this cafe in JB for great iced coffee to battle the heat. No extra charge for iced drinks and paid total RM16 for an iced latte and an iced americano. Staff were super friendly as well and offered us free wifi! Can expect it to get busy on weekends tho
The famous Hiap Joo bakery was crowded and sold out but we managed to find this less hyped place which had a variety of pastries and bread. Bought the kaya buns which had a good bun-to-filling ratio (at least for me) and bread loaf which tastes exactly like kopitiam toast bread. Highly recommend!!
