Food with Drinks
The prawns were so juicy and crunchy, so the freshness is without a doubt! And it also had that extra flavour from being infused with the 12-hours prawn broth as well!
Each bite was filled with a rich and creamy flavour, without being too cloying! The crispy fried mushrooms added some texture and crunch to the overall taste too!
The salmon was cooked perfectly, with the flesh tender and moist, while the skin was so crispy! The sauce was really tasty too! Legit havenât had such a good salmon in a long while!
We were over at The Drunken Poet on the weekend for some pub grub, where we had a hearty meal of:
~Guinness Baby Back Ribs ($28)
~Olâ Skool Fish Nâ Chips ($28)
~Garlic Parmesan Wings ($18)
First up, I gotta say their food portions are really hefty and we had trouble finishing the food, so you are definitely getting your moneyâs worth. I enjoyed the Guinness Baby Back Ribs, which were tender and slathered in sweet and addictive Guinness BBQ sauce. The Fish Nâ Chips was well-fried and flaky, and the Garlic Parmesan Wings made for a good bar bite to share.
Be sure to complete your Irish pub experience here with their beers on tap, like Guinness, Kilkenny and more.
We were at Drunken Farmerâs new Martin Road outlet (same space as Common Man Coffee Roasters) for wine and dine last week, where we enjoyed food from their sourdough-focused menu, paired with their range of natural wines.
They are well-known for their signature sourdough pizzas, which are made from a 160-year-old starter that is slow-fermented for 30 hours. The crust had a good balance of crispiness with a slightly chew. We tried a few of them - Calzone ($25), Shrooms & Goat Cheese ($22), Margherita ($18) and Pepperoni ($23) - and itâs hard picking a favourite, as each of them were yummy in their own ways! We also tried some of their sides like Creamy Stracciatella ($18), Drunken Farmerâs Salad ($15) and Sourdough Karaage ($20). They were all enjoyable, especially the Sourdough Karaage, which was so juicy and crunchy, and complemented well with the zingy homemade kimchi mayo! We ended our meal with some of their delectable desserts like Fresh ânâ Fruity ($14.50) and Flourless Chocolate Cake ($18).
We had some of their natural wines, which included red, white, rose, orange and sparkling. You can enjoy 13 labels available by-the glass (from $18) or have your pick from a bottle selection of over 50 labels (from $85) to have with their food.
I recently checked out Vin Geek, a new wine bistro in town (Pacific Plaza) that offers a 24-bottle wine dispenser with a variety of premium wines (reds, whites & rosĂŠs) from reputable wineries. The wines are available in three tasting measures (30ml, 90ml and 150ml), with prices ranging from $3.50 (30ml RosĂŠ) to $203 (150ml Shiraz). Iâd personally recommend trying the Marchesi Antinori Tignanello Toscana IGT 2018; this tasted the best among the few I sampled!
They also have yummy dine-in food options like Lobster Roll, Crab Cake and Buffalo Chicken Bites to pair with your wines!
Need more wine? They have a retail space that has got you covered with its fine selection of quality wines, cheeses, cured meats and other tantalising offerings for a quick grocery run! You can even dine-in and enjoy your selected wine from their retail space with only a small corkage fee of $30.
We visited Beast & Butterflies recently to try some new dishes on their menu (*available on dinner menu only, the rest are available on brunch, lunch & dinner menus):
~*Prime Rib of Beef (1kg) w/ baked cheesy garlic cauliflower gratin & blue cream cheese sauce ($140): Would recommend ordering this whopping 1kg portion of beef to share if youâre a group of meat lovers dining together! Although the beef wasnât as tender as what I wouldâve liked, it was still really well-seasoned and had a good bite to it! Not the biggest fan of the blue cream cheese sauce though; did not think it went well with the beef. I recommend going for the black pepper or red wine sauce instead.
~Cod Papilotte in superior soy sauce w/ classic rosemary butter roasted potatoes ($32): The cod fish had a nice firm texture, and it was paired very nicely with the soy sauce too!
~Octopus Salad ($28): This is a good salad! Each ingredient shone individually, but the star of the show is of course the octopus which was done really well!
~Mushroom Veloute ($16): Thick & creamy, just the way I like it!
~Orh Nee BrĂťlĂŠe ($12): I like how they incorporated orh nee into this classic dessert, where instead of custard, you get an orh nee base. The richness of the orh nee is a nice contrast to the sweetness of the caramelised sugar. Love it!
~Pandan Panna Cotta ($12): Smooth and pretty fragrant, with the gula melaka syrup adding an extra sweetness!
