double yolk yam mooncake ($35 for 2 pieces excluding shipping)
got this on shopee as this came out top when i searched yam mooncake. since it has a lot of good reviews i decided to try this out. the box is super pretty and can be reused as a tissue box! love that. i found the pastry skin too oily for my liking which is sad because i loved the filling. the yam is comfortably sweet and natural tasting. the salted egg yolk was a bit hard & dry but it was really fragrant. when eaten with the yam though i felt that it overpowers the yam but still, itās nice eating everything together. sorry the cross section pic is blurry but the cross-section is beautiful.
This is my first time trying a Portuguese egg tart so I didnāt know the tart base was supposed to be croissant-based instead of buttery cookie-ish-based (aka the normal tart base). The pastry base was buttery and flaky, something I think people would like if they like eating croissants. I donāt really like them so I found myself wishing they were the normal tart base instead. The egg custard was super good though. It was eggy and mildly milky and creamy. It wasnāt super sweet either which made it very enjoyable to eat.
