Coffeesmith

Scones and Americano ($8.50)

Price Rating: $$

Ambience: 3*

*Drum roll*

Okay! On episode 2 of us finding the best scones, we have our next candidate: scones from coffeesmith!

When you bite into it, the scone is buttery, moist, chewy and doesn’t just fall apart like it’s cheaper alternatives. Goes really well with a cup of Americano as you sit in the cafe and people watch.

Kraftwich by Swissbake
Raisin Scones with Butter ($2.5)
Price Rating: $
Ambience: 3*

Scones, I’ve always thought that it’s only an English thing, but apparently, the Swiss make it GOOD.
If you are looking for cheap thrills and good scones that satisfies your cravings, I would say, go for Kraftwich over Starbucks. The scones are similar, but you will look more hipster and less like a basic b*tch.

Tiong Bahru Bakery

Chocolate Danish ($4.5)

Price Rating: $

Ambience: 3*

Oh won’t you look at that.

I mean, just look at that perfect swirl of rich, dark chocolate in that beautiful piece pf danish. Sinful, sinful, sinful.

Tiong Bahru Bakery

Sugar Brioche($2.8)

Price Rating: $

Ambience: 3*

How dare you enter a bakery and only order a sugar brioche! Oh, wait it’s from Tiong Bahru Bakery? Oh, okay that makes sense.

A simple affair with snow white-like sugar cubes littered all over the top of the soft, fluffy bread. Who wouldn’t like that?

Tiong Bahru Bakery
Kouign Amann($3.5)
Price Rating: $
Ambience: 3*

Alright, I’m gonna make this easier for you. It’s pronounced as “Queen Aman”.
A little scandalous if you accidentally remember it as “Queen’s Aman”, and a little ballsy if you call it “Queen, A Man.”

If you don’t know what Kouign Amann is, it is this piece of sweet, caramelized goodness with a crunch and a chew to it. A little salty, mostly sweet, and a perfect snack to go with a cuppa.

Tiong Bahru Bakery
Green Tea Almond Croissant ($4.5)
Price Rating: $
Ambience: 3*

If you know me, you should also know that I take my croissants very, very seriously.
So, in search of the best croissants in Singapore, I scoured every piece of this very expensive land for some buttery, flaky goodness and decided to step into this local bakery run by the french. Still suffering from some form of post-colonial hangover (JK, we were colonized by the Brits), I’ve decided to go against my natural repulsion towards green tea and give it a shot. I was ready to open fire at it’s taste and complain about how much I hate green tea on my food. Man was I wrong. After taking a bite of the croissant, I felt like I needed to apologize to the piece of pastry I held in my hands for being so mean. Well, enough said, it was good, and worth your calories, so go for it.

On a serious quest to review food that's worth every dollar and calorie.
