Izakaya Spots
Pretty decent joint - food is actually quite good :) the dumplings - so wide in variety and style, and the borscht! would definitely come back for that alone. Overall a nice place to be at on a Friday evening after work for some casual dining experience.
Wanted to find an eatery around Jurong East BUT wanted to avoid the crowd at JEM and JCube - thus decided to walk further down to Vision Exchange and try out Gyu Co.
Was pleasantly surprised by the relatively cheap pricing for its Gyu - but the quality wasnt compromised for sure. Tried the Classic Gyudon and also the Mentaiko Rainbow Trout Don for my partner, and I have to say I liked both of them. Beef was melt-in-mouth standards, something I would expect from a gyudon - but at such prices?? Definitely a steal for me.
If there was something slightly ever missing - the chawamushi (comes along in the set, on top of soup and drink) was a little too watery for my liking. BUT it doesnt take away from the fact that the Gyudon was fantastic. Definitely recommend if you wanna try quality Jap food at a neighbourhood setting without bursting your wallet.
Wont associate Kovan with the words "Japanese Izakaya" but this place proved me otherwise - affordable Japanese fare tucked in a quiet neighbourhood - the decor and music played transported me back to my days in Tokyo looking for cheap and fantastic food.
The pork belly stood out here by a mile - ordered a second round and easily could have went for a 3rd. The wide variety of small bites was another clincher for me.
Definitely a place to head to if you are around the area. Oh yeah - service was prompt as well, thats a plus for me.
Ribs were quite well seasoned and marinated.. service was prompt and professional.. pricing wise pretty affordable.
The dish was a pleasant surprise as I felt I genuinely got the value out of the price I was paying for it. Wide range of pastas for one to choose from, and that service was decent too.
The atmosphere of this place was lovely to begin with - food wise it offered a wide selection that is par course for a izakaya, the major difference was that this place served up above decent Japanese fare - from its skewers to its oh-so-good katsu. And one cant simply walk away from this place without pairing your food with its wide array of sake selections.
Definitely a place to head to if you are in the CBD area and looking for a place to unwind with colleagues/friends after a long day.
