For those who live Korean Fried Chicken, this new place at Newest must be a blessing. But I find the chicken patty and chicken tenders to be very greasy and when you add cheesy fries, it’s quite heavy a meal.
The ultimate test for crispy fried chicken is to buy take away and see if it is still crispy after some time.
I did exactly that to my 3 piece chicken rice set from Waker Chicken. Lo and behold, it was still crispy and tender when I ate it 30 mins after I received my order. The chicken seasoning was a tad salty for me but others would have liked it. The rice was buttery in taste which was delicious but the fries were a little soggy.
Sorry to compare with the famous K Fried Chicken but it’s nowhere near Waker and Waker has more to offer in terms of different flavours. No wonder it is opening outlets one after another.
New Korean Restaurant in Newest Mall opened by Korean mother and son team. Nice ambience and authentic Korean food. Wide selections from which I chose their beef bibimbap. Loaded with sliced bugolgi beef, carrots, pickled radish, seaweed and onsen egg, the portion is rather big. Take it easy on their bibimbap sauce as it is rather sweet. Otherwise the dish was yummy, purple rice and all.
Must come back soon to this gem to try out their other items on the menu.
How the mighty have fallen. The queues were once legendary, up to 2 hours. Today at 11.15, I was the first customer even though they started at 11am. By the time I left the kopitiam, they chalked up another 8 customers. Never a queue.
The Tornado Fried Rice tasted super. At the first bite a strong taste of butter came through immediately. Bits of shrimp, calamari, onions further accentuated the taste. The fried chicken (ordered 3 piece chicken wing, soy garlic flavour) was very crispy and savoury sweet. The pieces of batter was falling off everywhere as I bit into the chicken wing. Meat inside was tender and juicy.
So why the drop in business even though the food tasted good? I believe it could be because of one of the following reasons: 1) Sullen attitude of lady boss. 2) Perpetual long queues turns off the customers 3) They favoured delivery orders. Or maybe all of the above.
For me it’s the first reason. Stood at the stall for one full minute without anyone bothering to attend to me. When I finally caught the attention of the lady boss, I asked if the stall was open for business. She told me to look at the signboard. If the light behind the signboard is on, it means they are open for business. How rude.
Never coming back because of that. But I will miss their fried rice.
Pricey but good taste. Make reservations and be prepared for clothes to smell greasy.
This place was recommended to me by my Korean customer. So if Koreans will eat there, it means the food is legit. Became my go to place for Korean BBQ. Ordered Kalbi and Pork grilled, seafood pancake and Fish Roe Jjigae. The pancake was less crispy compare to the past. Meat dishes and Jjigae were delicious as usual. Hmmm....Can be better next time.
This little Korean outlet is popular for those who want fast simple Korean meals which do not involve grilling meats. Ordered the Tofu Jjigae with sliced beef and you can specify the spice level. Comes with three small plates of appetisers including kimchee and a pack of salty seaweed to wrap your rice with.
Good comfort food on a cold rainy day.
