I visited The Social Kitchen earlier this month. Itās Singaporeās first social enterprise cloud kitchen that aims to help the underprivileged pursue a F&B career.
A massive plate of fried bee hoon topped with two types of ngoh hiang (meat roll) and crispy prawn crackers. I must say the fried bee hoon wasnāt oily. But the pork filling in the ngoh hiang lacked the flavour and oomph I was expecting. Prawn crackers were crispy and not oily which was good.

Homemade patty cooked medium to medium well and served with melted Cheddar, sauteĢed shiitake mushrooms, lettuce and caramelised onions. Youāll get a side of crinkle cut fries. The patty is slightly juicy and I forgot to request for medium rare.

Unlike Ming Faās other outlets, they use LactoNoodle la mian here which aids with digestion. The thin, round noodles are firm and springy, the fishballs being bouncy and not too fishy. Itās garnished with shiitake mushrooms and shreds of carrot and cucumber.

Who agrees that giving gives you more joy than receiving? The spirit of love and giving transcends communities and festivals. So I decided to check out a social enterprise F&B this time - Crossings Cafe. Set up by the Roman Catholic Church, ALL its profits go to charity.
They employ disadvantaged personnel so as to give them a viable career path. As part of their vision, it partners with Assumption Pathlight School and Bettr Barista to offer their students and graduates such opportunities.
One of their bestsellers, youāll get a generous serving of sweet, barely spicy and eggy chilli crab sauce poured over a bed of spaghetti. Itās then topped with a whole deep fried soft shell crab. Pasta was cooked al dente and this dish wasnāt too cloying (jelak). The portion is pretty big and it can sure fill up your stomach quite fast.
Do go down and have a meal. The fare may be very simple. But hey, itās all for a good cause. š
