Although this looks so colourful, don’t be deceived! The brioche bun was too thick for my liking, the poached eggs didn’t flow like how I expected it to be, the taste was quite one-dimensional so after eating too many mouthfuls you get a bit tired. There’s much to improve in my opinion!
I’ve been here multiple times and always look forward to give another bread a go. Here’s a beautiful spread of avocado over rye bread. I love the pop of capers, pomegranate seeds and feta cheese for it gives more dimension to the avo layer. A well-executed brunch dish, except that the poached egg would have been better with Hollandaise sauce or a dash of salt and pepper. A beauty nonetheless
Having always had the classic Truffle Yakuniku at Tanuki Raw, I was curious about their burritos under the label of Sumo Bar Happy. I’ve heard of Sumo Bar Happy and have even pinned in on my Google maps but never got around to giving it a go. Their mixed rice was something different from the usual burritos. The steak was seasoned beautifully, adding flavours to every bite. However, I would have to say the winner for this dish is the little salsa dip. The spiciness packs a punch and it’s so amazing when it slather it onto the burrito. Delicious meal!
The seared scallops and prawn linguine was amazing. Linguine cooked al dente and the thick stock wonderfully coats the pasta. The seafood morsels were fresh and juicy. I would recommend this dish!
Love it that The Coffee Academics is so spacious and accommodating during this period of safe distancing. For our group of 5, we had an enjoyable time with their great service and food recommendations. Overall, the three-meat pizza was a tad too salty but the truffle mushroom pizza was delicious! The thin crispy crust is a rare sight amongst the cafes in Singapore, but I very prefer that to the thick doughy ones.
Even the salted egg carbonara and Chili crab linguine had a good amount of sauce wrapped around the strings of noodles. Splendid time for our evening celebration!
I had the Pulled Pork Egg Benedict. The egg flows beautifully when you pierce into it and it goes well with the sweet, tangy pork shreds and the fat slices of brioche. Having said that, the salsa wasn’t the most necessary and this dish could have gone without it. Some of the rocket leaves were turning yellow. With more variation in the leaves and a layer of balsamic vinegar and olive oil, the magic of this dish can be brought out better.
Pretty surprised when I saw this huge portion of food. The poached eggs came out perfect, it opens beautifully when your knife runs through it. The little cubes of cheese provided that dimension of creaminess and sourness to the toast. Would definitely recommend this simple yet fulfilling brunch choice!
