Rather pricey for a typical traditional set ($4.30) but I must say that the toast was phenomenal - the bread was fluffy with a crisp exterior, the kaya rich and decadent. Would have loved a little more butter because it wasn’t enough to go around but it added great depth of texture and flavour! Consistency of the eggs were perfect but the drinks were average at best. Will get just the toast next time!

Was feeling something savoury, so I got the duck focaccia ($6). The crumb was too dense and sticky, made worse by the grease. The pickled onion helped cut through the heavy flavours! Might have been better if it had been toasted til crisp but it was barely warm when served.

Was absolutely enamoured with this kokutou fig bun ($2.20) - fluffy and chewy, every morsel yields a mouthful of grainy sweetness!

Stopped to buy some korean buns when I realised that this was the store which had recently opened! I’d suggest to visit early if you want the full selection - they had sold out of most options by 7 pm. Had it chilled as recommended, and I think it’s more suited for dessert than breakfast!

The matcha cookie bun ($2) sure packs a punch with its generous cream filling. It’s not too sweet but I’d enjoy a stronger tea flavour. The injeolmi red bean ($2) featured a greater variety of textures as there was the injeolmi cream, mochi layer and some red bean. Found the cream rather clumpy and it overwhelmed the other flavours - a larger portion of red bean filling would help!

Opted to try their toast set with more unique flavours like matcha milk and earl grey ($5.30)! The spreads are creamy and sweet, with a subtle tea flavour. Felt that the toast could have been a bit more crisp! Best part of the meal was definitely their kopi - thick, strong coffee flavour and not too sweet β˜•οΈ

Simply Bread is a family favourite that we’ve been patronising for years! The staff is always warm, and we particularly enjoy the sticky buns and whole meal loaf. Popped by for a late lunch - their grilled cheese sandwich ($7.90) is a simple affair. The toast is crispy and you get a choice of pickles, onions or tomatoes!

Also tried the roasted egg plant with miso dressing ($14 for 2). I love bread and the biggest draw for me was the sourdough base!! It was soft and chewy with a crisp shell and had just the barest hint of acidity. I liked that there was a layer of olive oil, which complemented the bread! Enjoyed the eggplant and tomatoes, which were roasted till warm and soft and provided dimension in flavour and texture. The miso dressing was well done, but it was quite strong (especially in the middle, where most of it was drizzled)!

So excited to finally try TSS! We got the roasted mushroom and creme fraiche ($14 for 2). I love bread and the biggest draw for me was the sourdough base!! It was soft and chewy with a crisp shell and had just the barest hint of acidity. The roasted mushrooms were well seasoned, and I loved the melted cheese. Am not the biggest fan of creme fraiche but this one was alright! A little pricey for 2 slices of toast but they were delicious and a rather large portion πŸ‘πŸΌ

Have been an avid fan of TBB’s bakes for many years, but I only just tried their breakfast offerings - and boy was it worth the detour on the way to work! The cashew pesto herbivore ($8.50) on sourdough ($4) was an absolute dream. Think creamy mashed avocado with chunks of avocado mixed in, whilst the cashew pesto layered on top lent a hint of savouriness and an occasional crunch. The cherry tomatoes were burst of sweetness and the sourdough base (3 slices!!) was chewy and seeded with grains! Also not to forget the onsen egg - meals here are truly the package deal. It may be a little on the steeper side for breakfast but it sure kept me full for a long while!

Taking over from Woodlands Sourdough, Micro similarly boasts of its bread that’s baked in-house daily. The nut butter toast ($6) was rich but not overtly sweet, complementing the slight acidity of the sourdough well. There was honey drizzled over with some chopped nuts, but I missed the sprinkle of sea salt that was present in its predecessor’s - it would have helped to break through the richness of the butter. The toast set ($5) was a bit of a let down as I was expecting more to it (perhaps a variety? Two slices of plain sourdough seemed a bit steep for its price), but it allowed for the sourdough to shine through. Chewy and crusty, it was accompanied by unsalted butter, salt flakes and black pepper. The flat white ($5) had full flavour that I enjoyed!
