The chicken here is pretty average. It isn’t the most tender or tasty but still pretty good as a snack, and made yummy with the Thai chilli.
The small portion here is the real version of the boat noodle, served as a bite sized portion for ease of handing it over from the boats that traverse the Thai canals. You’ll need at least five of these to make a main, but it’s great for sampling what they have to offer here without worrying about being overloaded with carbs.
The pork was great. Fried until crispy and fragrant but hardly oily at all. This went superbly with the Thai chilled sauce. Went great with the heneiken bucket.
Touted as a must try dish, I can see why this is a popular dish amongst the mainly Thai clientele. I found this a bit too salty and oily, more so than the usual versions served at Chinese restaurants.
Also delicious is their Tom yum soup, which come chock full of ingredients like prawn, squid and clams. But have mug of beer on standby as its on the spicier side.
Great for a quick fix, this hawker stall at newton serves up a mean pad thai. It’s sticky, salty and sweet. As authentic as pad thai gets in Singapore. Prepared to wait as there’s usually a queue for lunch.
Got the medium size which comes in this old school contraption that somehow brings a whole different experience. Tangy tom yum chock full of ingredients. A little more spicy than the usual Tom yum served here. No wonder the waiter asked if we wanted a less spicy option.
So I don't really get the hype about this chicken rice from Bangkok. I'd rate it 60th centile among the chicken rice I've tried in Singapore and probably pales in comparison to some of the famous ones we have here. Best part was of course dining in the comfort of an air conditioned mall. They've other zi char dishes too as well.
Greyhound hails from Bangkok and is one of my favourite Western-Thai fusion places. It's cool because they have traditional Thai dishes in addition to the more unique stuff, like this dish. Spaghetti was al dente and had a nice bite. Sauce was a little oily but hey this is aglio olio. May get a little spicy for most though.
