Spicy Life
My friends and I were lamenting the lack of good Korean restaurants here but this is definitely one of my go to Korean restaurants now. They have a mix of traditional and modern dishes that are moderately priced for the environment (modern and a bit fun).
Two great dishes:
- calamari - great spices and fried well
- Kalbi - well seasoned and so juicy
I love Vietnamese food and the flavors are decently authentic with star anise coming through in the pho and a subtle crunch of wood ear mushrooms in the cha gio (spring rolls).
But I will not return due to the following:
- service was rushed and servers only gave items like PLATES when we asked
- portion size was ridiculously small. My small child could have easily finished 3 tiny spring rolls and was still hungry (I managed to get one of them)
- they heavily advertise a buy 1 get 1 main for dine in. But seafood pictured on the page isn’t included which is 1/3 of the page. Also the cashier forgot to actually take off the price of the free item. I had to go back and fix this.
I’m still looking for a good Vietnamese place but won’t be spend money here again.
This fast casual Korean spot combines salad/rice bowls with Korean flavored proteins (short rib, pork, chicken, tofu) for an easy meal. Each bowl (S$10 onwards) comes with 5 toppings from corn to bean sprouts. I picked a short rib (actually more bulgogi) with salad. I asked them to put in a little Kimchi rice which had a decently sour kimchi with white rice. I’d visit again for a minimally guilty meal.
I’ve never had grilled fish buffet but this is just a (usually spicy) soup base with a grilled fish on top. Then you can add your own ingredients. We started off with pork belly, prawns and various vegetables which don’t seem like big portions.
You can order more but be warned - subsequent portions can be big! Go easy on the carbs too so you don’t fill up (hand pulled noodles pictured were great in the broth!) There is technically a S$10/100 grams surcharge for wasted food though we didn’t get charged. Don’t order too much though!
