Maxwell Food Centre
Set B: Atas Cutlet ($6.80)
- Very fragrant chicken rice
- Egg was crispy but not runny
- Very crispy chicken with lots of prawn paste flavour
- But chicken was rather dry and tough
- A substantial portion of boneless chicken cutlet was given
- Love the citrusy sambal chili, mildly spicy
The chili really helped to tie the fried chicken and rice together which are both generally oily dishes, cutting through the richness of it and providing some moisture to the dish as well. It may not be the best har cheong gai I've had but it is definitely an elevated version in terms of the extra crispiness due to it being double-fried and its pairing with an aromatic chicken rice and tangy chicken rice chili.

Maxwell Hakka Handmake Yong Tau Foo (Stall 22)
Yong Tau Foo Soup (Sorry! Forgot how many items I got but it costs me $4.80)
- Fish paste and all their ingredients tasted really fresh without any 'fishy' smell
- Tried a variety of fried and boiled ingredients including their chili, brinjal, fried egg, fish cake and tofu
- Loved their soup as well which wasn't too saltish
Taste: 9/10
Healthy Bean (Stall 16)
Black Sesame Soya Bean ($1.50)
- Felt that the black sesame flavour was far too little though the flavour of the drink itself is quite unique
Overall: 6/10
Hot Traditional Beancurd ($1)
- Wasn't exactly hot nor warm, it just wasn't cold
- Beancurd was firm but could have been silkier
- Felt that there was far too much glucose syrup

Fu Shun Jin Ji Shao La Mian Jia (Stall 71)
Roasted Pork Char Siew Rice with additional Char Siew + roast duck meat ($5 + $3)
I am pretty sure this stall has received more than sufficient rave reviews so I will keep mine short
- Char siew was sinfully good with the meat being tender, fats combined with the caramelised charred bits melting in your mouth (Almost as good as Old Airport Road's Roast Paradise)
- Roast pork had a crisp and crunchy skin and had quite a high fat-to-meat ratio
- Their sambal chili was only slightly spicy, complementing the dish really well
- Only shortfall for me would be their roast duck meat which was too tough for my liking

Weng Pancake (Stall 26)
Peanut Min Jiang Kueh ($0.70)
- Pandan skin pancake with peanut sugar filling
- Soft & chewy pancake with crunchy and sweet pancake filling
- Ah Lock & Co's pancake skin is a lot more firm while its peanut filling was substantially thicker, giving it more flavour from the peanuts
- Overall, don't think I can compare the 2 due to their different price points but I would choose this over Ah Lock & Co as it is far cheaper

Popo & Nana's Delights (Stall 70)
Nyonya Pork Rib Buah Keluak ($6)
- Comes with rice, braised cabbage, bowl of sweet corn soup, 4 chunks of pork rib and I asked for their chili as well
- Buah keluak sauce had the fragrant taste of fermented black beans and was thick and fleshy. When paired with the rice and their chili sauce, it complemented one of another really well, the chili being sour and spicy.
- The star of the show had meat which was fall-off-the-bone tender, making every bite really satisfying
- Overall, a hearty and healthier hawker dish (You can add $0.50 to opt for brown rice) that is extremely value-for-money

Okay, was walking around enjoying my day around Singapore and just thought that I would have an early dinner at one of the most famous hawker centres in Singapore. And so I decided to try their curry rice! :)
(At that time they ran out of the egg though)
Hainanese curry rice with cabbage + pork chop ($3)
- Pork chop crispy and sweet
- Curry not spicy at all but was really fragrant
- Though I'm one that usually prefers my food to be spicy, this stall's curry rice was surprisingly good. The curry sauce coated every grain of pearly white rice giving a lovely aroma with every bite while the sweetness from the pork chop helped to balance out the savoury curry
- Think a runny yolk would have enhanced the dish even more though!

Aburi Salmon Don ($13 nett)
6.5/10
- Sashimi was not the freshest
- Would have preferred stronger aburi flavour
- Value-for-money and fills you up
- Good for satisfying donburi cravings
