You'll find a snaking queue emerging from this otherwise inconspicuous bakery at The Longhaus on fringe of Upper Thomson Road. Seize one of their colourful stools as a makeshift table or have their coffee and bakes to go. While their bakes are excellent —savour the Vegan Bialy ($6), Spelt Almond Financier ($5) or Banana Walnut Date Tea Cake ($5.50) — the coffee deserves a mention too. Brewed with Cata Coffee beans, each cup is a delight. Have a Filter Coffee ($4.50) or delicious Cold Bew ($5).

Huddle around the standing bar and enjoy your well-crafted coffee. You'll be hardpressed to find a smoother, more balanced 5oz White ($5). What a lovely surprise it is when you spot Tiong Hoe within Vivo City's Fairprice Xtra. Expect quality cuppas served in quaint ceramics, just like its older sibling located in Queenstown. Perfect for that midday perk-me-up is their creamy Latte ($4.50) or the super smooth Flat White ($5.40) — Burppler Regina Shao credits the perfectly balanced cuppa to its blend of 50% Columbia and 50% Guatemala beans roasted in-house.

This under-the-radar spot on the second floor of Far East Plaza is a saviour when looking for excellent coffee in Orchard. They usually roast and carry something interesting for a pourover, so look out for that. Otherwise, their espresso-based drinks are reliable! They have recently refreshed their space and added a few new drinks (we hear there's a Brown Sugar Latte) — all the more reason to head down. As a bonus, $1 from every cup of coffee goes to charity.

When it comes to good coffee, simple pastries and a stunning space, this Chijmes gem delivers. The beautiful glasshouse interior will put you in a stellar mood to start the day, as will the fragrant Filter Coffee ($7.50) — made with picks of the week from the likes of Cata Coffee and Homeground Coffee Roasters. Alternatively, the creamy Flat White ($5) with double shot also gets our stamp of approval — opt for Oat Milk for a non-dairy option.
