Penang Gems
Mango salad, mixed with dried crispy dried fish. Make this an excellent appetizer. Try the Cha Om (Fried Egg with Herbs), Seafood Otak, Basil Chicken too.
Traditional family style steamboat, accommodating owners who caters to flexible needs. BYO as well. Edit: Try their dishes as well, full of wok hei as well.😋
One of the must eat staples in Penang, this particular curry noodle is my favorite, with good portioning of cockles, pig blood and the best chilli mix. Make this in my opinion, the best.
Old fashion dim sum cannot get better than this. In a 2 unit shophouse, house this ancient tim sum tea house which serves great tim sum and cze char. Recommended the special 三更卖, 鸳鸯河粉 and 炒米粉. Also try the famous Kaya Bao, Yam Bao and 马来糕. Landmark: Opposite Hotel Kimberley Georgetown.
This soup-only version (RM 8.50) makes for a good supper, but if you’re hungry, order their yam rice.
Comforting, homely minced meat/ mixed pork soup with salted vegetables. The ingredients were fresh, served with quite a good portion of mixed pork offals that were tasty and that didn’t have any strange smell/ textures. I loved how the liver was just the right amount of chewiness but still tender enough and minced meat was flavorful! and of course the soup - served with sour plum and tomato that brought some well balanced sweetness with a tinge of tanginess.

Personally enjoyed the Thai-style lalas- very plump and portion was great for RM18 (~SGD6)! Would’ve liked the steamed version as it seemed fresh enough.
