Taiwan Eats
For ~S$10, you get a delicious plate of pasta, free flow appetiser breadsticks while waiting for your pasta and a free dessert of your choice! What’s not to love?
The pink sauce shrimp pasta was amazing with the tomato and cream flavours in the pink sauce carefully balanced. I liked that there was enough shrimp and lean pork to accompany the pasta as I’m not so much of a carbs person.
My favourite breakfast place in Taipei has got to be Yong He! (Be careful not to mix this up with other outlets like 永和豆浆大王 though!)
The highlight for me was the cheese 蛋饼 egg crepe/pancake that is almost like an egg prata. Drizzled with some special sauce, this was sweet and salty all at once. I really liked the crispy texture as well - other 蛋饼s I have tried have proved to be mushy/soggy and just not nice...
The soy milk was also really light unlike those you normally find in Singapore and so you wouldn’t get jelat so easily. Paired with the crispy 油条, this combination was just 💯
The adventurous me decided to try out the 咸豆浆 which was unfortunately a miss for me. Let’s just say it’s an acquired taste.
On the other hand, the tamagoyaki was thick, juicy and fluffy all at once, although I would have loved it to be just a little sweeter. This was best enjoyed with the daikon and soya sauce which elevated the flavour even more. I was more impressed by this dish than the unagi don!
It wasn’t the best unagi ever but let’s just say for ~S$12 this was good enough.
At only 45NTD (~S$2), this cup of bbt was a steal! While the milk tea itself wasn’t the best, the consistency of the pearls was definitely on point - just the right level of bounce or QQness as the Taiwanese would call it. Unfortunately, it was a little out of the way at Gong Guan night market.
